If you are feeling resistance trying to re-insert the lint screen most likely the duct has clogged further down (a load of my husband's shop rags packed mine solid one day). Needless to say it's not safe to run it like this due to the risk of fire.

You can try using a dryer lint trap brush to dislodge the clog. But with it being clogged to this extent probably the best way to make sure it's cleaned out properly is to remove the duct inside the dryer. This would involve taking the back off the dryer and some dissasembly, so if you're not comfortable with doing that please call a professional.

If you feel comfortable with doing this, FIRST make SURE the breaker to your dryer is off and the dryer is unplugged.

1. Turn the dryer around and remove the vent hose from the bottom.
2. Remove the screws to take the back panel of the dryer off.

With the back panel off, you will see the duct on the left hand side that leads from your lint filter on the top of the dryer to the blower housing at the bottom.

3. Remove your lint filter from the top, while doing so note that there are 2 screws right next to it on the top, remove these 2 screws being careful not to loose them in the duct. These hold the top of the duct to the dryer.

4. Next follow the duct down to where it mounts at the bottom to the blower housing, you will need to remove these screws also. there also may be a couple midway up that will be securing the duct in the dryer.

The duct should then be able to be removed from the dryer. Clean it out throughly, be careful, the edges are very sharp in places. Re-install, being careful not to drop the 2 top screws back down into the duct while replacing (you may want to install the lint filter first).

This video shows the procedure of the duct (or airbox) being removed and cleaned with the exception of the removal of the top 2 screws by the lint screen.

Dryer not drying clothes is taking two to three

Hi,

If your
dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Sounds like you have an open thermal limit. If the white fuse ever goes bad, you will know it because there will be power at the socket but, the dryer will not do a thing--testing the fuse should also show it is open. Some dryers have more than one thermal limit--one for the blower and one for the element. There are instructions for "general dryer no heat" on here that are step by step. A quick search should find what you need. Please unplug your dryer before you open the cabinet or access the controls.

Turns on but wont get hot

Hi

The first thing to check is the fuses or breakers in your homes fuse box. If this fuse is blown, it is possible for your dryer to spin but not produce heat. If you've checked the fuses and they are not blown, the next possible cause is the heating element. To check the heating element, move the back panel of the dryer. You'll need a volt/ohmmeter to check the element terminal. Locate the element and set the volt/ohmmeter on the RX-1 scale. Remove one lead from the element and then place one probe of the volt/ohmmeter on the terminal of the element. Place the other probe of the volt/ohmmeter on the remaining terminal of the element. Look for a continuity reading of the volt/ohmmeter of approximately 2-5 ohms. If there is no continuity reading, the heating element is defective and should be replaced. Also clean the lint filter every time you use the dryer. Even if the lint filter is cleaned after every load, lint will still accumulate around the dryer's moving parts, the exhaust duct and vent. Each year inspect the vent pipe and vent cover operation. Disconnect the exhaust duct and remove lint from the internal exhaust pipe, the duct and the vent. Make sure the duct has no kinks, where lint and moisture can build-up.Turn off the power; remove the front and rear panels and vacuum out the lint from around the motor and idler. Poor air flow uses more energy and can cause lint build-up in the internal ducting, leading to a fire hazard.

No heat

Good Morning; Thank You for your question. If you have an ohm meter, it would come in handy. The parts you will probably will need;
279838 Heater element $54.60
3387134 Control thermostat $21.26
3392519 thermal fuse $14.58
UNPLUG UNIT BEFORE WORKING ON IT, THANKS
To get to the parts, top is lifted by releasing 2 clips at the lf & rf by pressing in and lifting top. Lay back and prop. Now there are 2 screws at the top left and right of the front panel. Remove. Lift front panel off. Remove wires to door switch noting their position. Remove belt noting its position. Lift drum out. You will see the heat element. Use ohm meter after removing wires for continuity. Replace if necessary. The control thermost. is on blower housing. Replace. Thermal fuse is on heater housing, check for continuity. Whether you fix this dryer or install another one. Go behind dryer. The vent coming off of the dryer to the wall outlet must be as straight as possible. No kinks or bad bends. Go outside check wall vent for lint buildup and clean. Hope this helps

Turn dryer on two or three times to completely dry

Your dryer's heating element may be partially burned out. If it is, your dryer still heats, but at such a low temperature that it takes three or four times as long to dry the clothes. If the element is partially burned out, replace it.
Your dryer has some internal ductwork. If it gets clogged, your dryer can't dry properly. In most dryers, to get to the internal ductwork to clear the clog, you have to substantially disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct. If it looks clogged and you can't clear it using your vacuum.
Frequently there's an obstruction in the vent duct from the dryer to the outside of the house. For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be clean and clear of lint or any other substance.
