Where is cmos battery located

A dead battery should not slow you down. Sometimes it might stop the machine booting, but if it gets that far it should run normally apart from the time...

My hp tower turns off by itself after a minute

Test your PSU power supply unit or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle of restarting or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive power and data cables IDE SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your dvd\cd floppy drives have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty computers need power and data to travel through every working device to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical or fan lead can cause you problems

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail

check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in check you CPU central processing unit make sure its securely seated and has thermal paste it might be getting to hot the thermal paste will help disperse the heat Thermal compound is a sticky paste that is placed directly onto the CPU. Allowing for a more direct heat transfer between the CPU and HEAT SINK and preventing air gaps from forming between the CPU and heat sink. hope this helps

A450N needs new monitor - what monitor specs are required?

Any monitor will do unless you are trying to get one with the built in speakers that you have. Just make sure the monitor has the same type of connection that you currently have (VGA, DVI, HDMI, etc).

I have a hp a450n and need a graphics card. I have 1 APG and 3 PCI slots. The cards I find calls for a PCI express and I do not have a slot for that. Where can I find a graphics card for my computer.

Hi,AGP graphics cards are no longer available in most stores. Your best option would be to browse classified ads in your area to find a used AGP card. If this is not possible in your area you could also find AGP cards on-line at web sites like www.ebay.com These on-line items can be paid for by credit card or Paypal in most cases and will often include packaging and shipping to your location.Best wishes,Graemevm

The Desk Top is a HP Pavilion a6403w, Everything

Hi wjbrummel,

I see that you are experiencing issue with your HP desktop.

I saw on your post that you mentioned you tried troubleshooting the issues and see that you basically did everything possibl;e to see if the machine still works, yes it has power but the main thing is it show that the Motherboard is not responding at all in you case.

I would suggest removing the CMOS battery from inside the machine hold it in between your fingers then touch the side of the battery onto a Metal thing for only 2 seconds then place it back in the motherboard. then try powering the machine back in again to see if this does not help then most probably the motherboard just gave way and may need replacing.

I hope this clears the issue.

Have a nice day,

I want to get a few more years out of my a450n so

If I've got the right unit, you have an AGP 8x slot which means you can get an AGP 8x graphics card. The selection of the AGP cards is not what it used to be so you make have to upgrade your PSU, depending on whats avalable. If I'm also got the right unit, it came with Nvidia GeForce FX5200 graphics and, I'm guessing that is intigrated. If the fan is a problem for you, you can get "spped fan" here:
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
This will allow you to adjust your fan speeds.
As far as a Graphics card goes:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161318
Something like this would work for you, it requires a 300w power supply, others are available. The thing I like about the Radeon HD cards is that your can get the graphics and they have built in sound as well. If it doesn't come with the DVI adaptor, you can order one.
