Alternatively, try connecting the scanner to the computer and loading a generic WIA driver from the OS.

In either case, if they work, you will not be able to use the buttons on the scanner to launch scans. Instead use Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) or Paint (File > Import from Camera or Scanner) to acquire scans. (You can also acquire scans in Photo Gallery if you download and install that software from Microsoft. Alternatively, you can buy a third-party software for scanning and OCR.)

it means the lamp does not work , try to restart the scanner ,if still lamp off , it means faulty scanner lamp

Remove scanner prog. go to www.hp.com look for update which includes Win7 download/setup.

I had the same problem (and maybe more using Windows 7 x64). Vuescan solve all by recognizing old scanners and working very well. The software is available to work in both x32 & x64.Flasharg

hp released 2 patches for this . download the patch and install them.

install the software that come with the scanner and double click it with it finish and click on the software to start scanning click in scan ocument their and change the document format to pdt format bot note:make sure u ve pdf on ur system if not it will not work

If your Scanner came with scanning software, make sure you have all the latest updates and see if you can connect to the scanner with the software. You may also want to try to reboot your machine after you installed the new drivers.

The factory default is blank.

Sounds like the main circuit board fried. You can't repair it, thus replacement is the only option. That will not guarantee normal operation and your taking a chance one way or the other.

Install the drivers for it from the HP website. Other software for it should be there as well. As to scanning speed, setting it to scan at lower resolutions can speed scanning. Scanning for color is slower than scanning for Black and White, FYI.

Hah, hah. That is what happens when you upgrade unnecessarily to an operating system for which you do not have the correct driver. Unless HP provides a driver u are out of luck - they prefer that you buy a new scanner from them, of course!
