The error that your having is a hardware issue, it means your printer has an Ink System Failure. Believe me, there's no use going through troubleshooting for this one. Call HP and just Upgrade your printer. HP Printer Tech Support would be more than happy in giving you discounts and an extra year of warranty for $1.00.
NEED TO REPAIR MY HP 1610- CARRIAGE JAM!!!
I had the same problem, but the carriage was jamming on the right. When the carriage is in the right, there is a component that moves front and back under the carriages to clean them. The rails that this component moves on were covered with sticky ink and so it wasn't moving freely. I disconnected the power and used q-tips with mild cleanser to remove the ink from the rails. This fixed the problem.

Hello,
Go to this site:
HP PSC1610 Support
Click on the
Software & Driver Downloads link.
Enter your operating system on the next page. Click
Next.
Under Driver you can download basic or full featured drivers.
My best advice: Download the software to your desktop. (DO NOT RUN from the site.)
Power up the printer but do not connext the cable to the computer.
Run (double-click) the file you downloaded. Connect the printer when prompted.
The link above should be bookmarked. There is a lot of information available. You might want to download the manual and check it out.

When I make a copy
First pull out the ink cartridge. On the bottom, you'll find a metallic strip that looks like aluminum. Gently clean off any ink on it with a soft damp cloth. Then look at the rollers that feed the paper through and clean any ink off those that you see.
