Hi -- Hope this helps, it worked for me. Firstly, I strongly suggest you click
http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-free-portable.php and save the file, then run the app. The built-in software uninstaller in Windows often leaves garbage behind in folders, files, and the registry that can make future installations fail. REVO is really good at getting rid of ALL of the crap so a clean re-install is possible. The above link is for their totally free portable version -- no crap and you don\'t have to install anything to use it. That said, uninstall all the software, then open your device manager and locate the entry for your device, right-click and select uninstall. DO check the box that says "delete the driver software for this device" so that you will be starting clean. After uninstalling, unplug the USB cable to your device and reboot. After the reboot, Do NOT plug in the USB cable yet -- First, insert the driver CD and start the setup program. Wait until the software tells you, then plug in the USB cable and continue following the on-screen directions. Once everything installs, it may tell you to reboot, if so, don\'t try using the device until you do. After the reboot (or after the install finishes if it doesn\'t make you reboot) you should be good to go again.I have had this problem repeatedly when trying to re-install drivers for various HP Products, and this has (so far, anyway) worked for me in XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8.Good Luck!
