HP DeskJet 6122 InkJet Printer - Page 5 Questions & Answers
Replaced color cartridge, but will not print
Try to remove print head (not just cart, but whole head to reach contacts),
clean contacts and reinsert it, if that helps. If not, something may be
dead - either head or printer.
Hp deskjet 6122 paper feed
Try putting Isopropyl alcohol on the feed rollers. These rollers become hard and smooth with time and cause all sorts of paper feed problems. You can find isopropyl alcohol at any drug store(it is rubbing alcohol).
Diskjet6122 the light that looks
The indicator light blinks, it says you're low on ink in one or both cartridges. If you've changed cartridges and it still blinks, you may have stuck or dirty pins in the cartridge station(s). Use a damp, lint free cloth to make sure the pins are clean and move freely
Problems printing photos
check ur ink cartize. look every colour r fulfill. then u can go to printing priferance and command head cleaning. then ur printer start cleaning and want a paper for check. do that.
All documents are printing in purple. Black/white and color docs
Could be the connections to the cartidge are not making good contact. I have witnessed similar events. A simple suggestion to try before throwing out your printer -- clean the connection pins where the printer interfaces with the cartridge. Remove both cartridges. You'll see the connection pins low in the cartridge carriage. I suggest the eraser end of a pencil -- a new/soft eraser will work best. These pins are spring loaded, but will return to proper position once you remove the pencil eraser. Be careful to not press too hard -- not enough force to bend the pin.
Occasionally the problem is not with the printer pins but rather the cartridge contact plates. A cotton ball or swab with a mild cleaning solvent can clean these contacts. Be careful to remove any foreign material from the surfaces before replacing. And be careful with the print head itself -- it can release ink without notice!
Color is wrong
Have you tried replacing the cartridges? Some programs such as Adobe Reader will generate a "black" equivalent from the color cartridge. In this case, if the color cartridge is low in red, the outcome will be blue. This would signify that the color cartridge needs to be replaced. HP supplied a utility program for the HP6122 to detect and report ink levels. If you have this utility, check the levels. The utility will only work if the computer is directly connected to the printer -- not thru a print server. If you don't have the utility, you should be able to get it at the HP website

You might find that both the black and the color cartridges are out of ink. Some print drivers can detect when the black cartridge is empty, then attempts to print a black equivalent using the color cartridge.
Shared HP 6122 printer with double side print
The original CD shipped with your HP6122 likely was produced prior to Vista. If you used the original CD to install the HP6122 driver on your new laptop, you likely do not have the latest version of the Vista driver. If this is the case, go to the HP website and install the Vista driver that matches with your laptop op system

Perferences in XP look different than in Vista, but you should be able to find the 2-sided peference for your laptop driver by going to the Control Panel > Printers > and selecting peferences using the HP6122 icon. In some versions the 2-side preference is in the "advanced" tab. Using the "advanced" tab will likely have check boxes rather than a full setting screen as in XP, but both work the same. You should see all the 2-side features present with radio buttons to select your preference. Likewise, when printing in Vista, you can select settings different than default preferences, in which case you can change the defaults for a single document print. Again, this will look different than in XP, but you should find the 2 side feature available either as a feature tab or in the "advanced" tab.
I have an HP 6122
The original CD for this printer includes maintenance and utilities programs. If you do not have the original CD, you should be able to access the HP6122 maintenance and utilities programs online at the HP service website

Select the full-feature version of the driver package. This kind of software generally is available free of charge from HP, but might require a small fee if you need the CD itself.
Within the HP6122 printer utilities are head-aligment and head-cleaning routines. One or both may be required to solve -- most likely head cleaning is required. Might require more than one cleaning event. Once clean, you can also print a test graphic from the printer utilities that does a good job of testing all colors and black.
Blinking teardrop light blinking
Blinking drop light on HP6122 signifies an ink cartridge is out of ink. There are two cartridges -- color (larger of two) and black (smaller of two). Blinking drop light only indicates either, but not which. HP6122 service software and print driver are available from HP website
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=83027&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us. HP6122 service software has a printer maintenance utility which includes ink cartridge monitor. Use the maitenance service utility to determine which (or both) cartridge is out of ink. With cartridge replacement, printer should automatically print test page, then reset and be ready for printing from your computer. To clear printed documents from print que, open the HP6122 print que via control panel > printers > double-click on HP6122 driver to show que > select document tab > select cancel.
Paper feed problem
this is the rare case: there could be two problem
1) either some bit of paper would have been stucked inside the printer
2) or else the roller is not smooth. the roller inside the printer helps to draw out the paper gently.

Won't Print
Try to put the old cartridge back in after shaking it and see if you have the same problem as the new one. It should give you a little information at the very least. Hope this helps.
Printer is printing really small
You need to delete the printer and reinstall using the disk that came with the printer. I had this problem and was just trying to reinstall with what Window XP had and it still printed tiny print. Using the disk to install solved the problem. I think this issue started when there was a windows update.
