Where is the battery on 7140xi

It's on the main logic pcb on the right side. You have to remove the back cover, unplug the scanner cables, remove the scanner and top cover and then the right side cover. The battery is on the circuit board on the inside side, so you have to remove the board to see it.

My 7410 All-in-One printer stopped in a blue screen with 00000020

0000020 is a BIOS error code for WiFi communication error. (Took me HOURS to find that in 2008!) 1. Power down the printer - disconnect the power supply 20 seconds. Restart it while pressing the ON along with OK both for 3-5 seconds. This will recover a failed BIOS. However, if the WiFi really is dead (and it IS the weakest link in the printer), you may get the error again. 2. Power off the printer (again). Disconnect the WiFi card (back panel, look for a 6-7 wire cable wrapped in plastic tape). If the printer restarts, you have your answer... but not the solution! 3. HP7400-series WiFi cards are rare as hens-teeth these days. Mine failed a 2d time; I use the cat5e connector and just leave the WiFi disconnected.

When I hit scan on my HP6600, the computer doesn't connect

I believe you'll have to download the drivers again from the HP website. I've had this problem happen before and that usually fixes it. Hope it helps!

Carriage jam

Sorry about the B.S., you can move the carriage by hand, and all you need is to clean the encoder strip that runs across behind the carriage assembly. You can wipe the strip gently with an alcohol swab or a Q-tip moist with alcohol. The bars on that strip tell the carriage where it is and grease or ink on it will give the carriage jam error. No calibration necessary after moving the head or cleaning the strip.
