The grinding noise is caused by a cracked motor gear. This is a very common issue on the Laserjet 4L and 4P units. It is a fairly easy repair but you will need to disassemble the printer to get to the drive motor. The clicking sound usually indicates a broken fixing coupler gear. The is the little gear on the top left side behind the fuser unit in the printer. Do you have the correct XP driver for the Printer? If yes check that the cable that connects the printer to your system is not damaged. If you have another working system near by you can connect the printer to the system and confirm the printer is working. If the printer is still not working, the printer port may be bad either on the system or on the printer. In this case you need a technician to help you confirm which is the faulty one.

That sounds like a problem with your printer driver to me. If the wrong driver is used, then print codes that the other device uses will not be interpreted correctly by your Laserjet 4M Plus, which will cause it to beep. Check the driver on your computer to make sure that you are using one designed for any of the following:

HP Laserjet 4
HP Laserjet 4+
HP Laserjet 4M
HP Laserjet 4M Plus

the paper has a course on the printer u should find out the sensors of detection for paper and clean them up uith a bat ear easy. Find out the sensor on your cooker - ie where is and clean it like I told u it would work, if it doesn't tell me. See ya

Have you made sure the tray slide that buts up against the paper is snug? I had this issue yesterday and that was the only issue. You may have to go into your settings and adjust the paper settings.

This is the communication port with which the cable plugs into instead of using for example an ethernet port. Not sure what you are meaning with just the reference LPT1 but this is simpl;y the port the cable plugs into

Check to see if the paper guide is up against the paper correctly. Make sure the door is shut completely. I know this sounds elementary but I have been on service calls and this was the problem, just today as a matter of fact.

Take a flashlight and look extremely close in all the cavities of the machine where the paper travels. YOu will be surprised the little pieces of paper you may find. Also it could be just a bad sensor. You can place the printer in a service mode and run a sensor test. To get into this mode you would need to find method of gaining access. If I could know the make and model, I could get this information for you

That is telling you that you need a maintenance kit installed. The Kit includes a Fuser, and rollers. It is not cheap.

Depends on your model, you should be able to adjust the paper tray for the paper size you are wanting. Also you can go into the menu and change print settings

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer?

Sounds like to me that you need to replace the formatter board that the jet card plugs into. Sometimes removing it and reseating it will take care of the problem

The printer cannot understand the driver language that Vista is providing. Even though it is labeled as HP LaserJet 4 Plus.I recommend trying the plain HP LaserJet 4 drivers or Lexmark Optra drivers. They may speak the language the printer likes, through Vista. If that does not work; it is time to purchase or use a newer printer.Have a great day!
