paper from m tray feeds okay, takes good print past fuser but stop short of coming out at the back. It is not crumpled or accordion like effect. It seems the two rollers is holding it of a sensor tells the roller to stop and not complete delivery. Whne paper pulled out by hand about one fourth is held between rolers.
But when papers are printed from the lower cassette there is no problem. It was working before until I took the unit outside and vacuum cleaned it. The back rollers passed the fusers have marking on both ends. Any thoughts.
Thanks.

HP LaserJet 4, 4m, 4 Plus and 4m Plus Series Printers - False Error Message 13 PAPER JAM ISSUE: After clearing all jammed paper from the HP LaserJet 4, 4m, 4 Plus, or 4m Plus series printer, the display still reads 13 Paper Jam . Even after cycling the power off and then back on, the error remains. SOLUTION: Open the rear door of the printer. There is a paper sensor near the upper right hand corner of the fusing assembly (just below the right edge of the long yellow warning sticker on the fuser) that can cause paper jam error messages even when there is no jammed paper in the printer. Toggle the thin black plastic lever up and down to make sure it is not stuck or sticky. The lever should be in the down position before closing the back of the printer. If the lever is stuck or missing, the printer will generate a false paper jam message. Hope it will help you !

MY PRINTER IS DISPLAYING AN ERROR CODE "57 SERVICE" WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??????
57 (or 57.1) SERVICE Message (Main Motor
Failure)
The 57 SERVICE indicates that the DC Controller PCA detected a
general motor failure. The Main Motor drives all moving
components in the printing process. The Main Motor is a 4-phase,
DC servo motor controlled by the DC Controller PCA.
The formatter detects a Main Motor failure when:
• The Main Motor does not come up to speed within one second
of receiving drive voltage.
• The Main Motor deviates from the correct speed for one second
after reaching the correct speed.
Main Motor Functional Checks
• Inspect the gear train for debris that would block the free
operation of the gears.
• Check the gears in the Toner Cartridge for wear and binding.
• Reseat J211 (or J214 on the HP LaserJet 4 Plus/4M Plus) on
the DC Controller PCA, and the main connector on the Main
Motor Assembly. Refer to Figures 7-16 and 7-17 for the DC
Controller PCA connector locations.
• If the problem persists, check that the +24B Voltage is present
on the DC Controller. If the voltage is not present, replace the
DC Controller. If the voltage is present, and the motor does
not rotate, replace the Main Motor Assembly

I get a horizontal black line across the page for several pages then it prints fine for 3 or 4 pages then back to the black lines across the page. Is there a way to tell if it is the fuser or the cartridge?
yes you have to catch printer making the line and then as a page is being printed you need to open door to stop paper after green cylinder(drum) as it is entering fuser, then you need to remove paper from printer without pulling through the fuser, if you see the line then rub your finger across line up and down page, if it smears at all then its the cartridge if not then the fuser

Was printing fine and just stopped, no apparent paper jam
Hi there
41.3 on a lj 4+ is a paper Feed related error normally caused by dirty or worn paper feed tyres if you are getting this error whilst feeding from the paper tray at the bottom of the printer stack a few sheets on the manual feed tray on the front if you dont get the error
clean all your feed wheels or order a service kit and replacement replacement tyres

printer displays ready but the computer says printer is offline
It sounds to me like you may be using this printer through the JetDirect interface and have the printer assigned a different IP address than what the computer is expecting. For example, if the computer is configured to find the printer at 192.168.1.205 and the printer has an address of 192.168.1.120, you will see the "printer offline" message on the computer but the printer is happily "online" according to its point of reference.
Another possibility is that the computer has the printer configured to "offline" mode. To check this, right-click on the printer and see whether there is a check mark next to "Use Printer Offline." If so, click on that option and that will remove the check mark, returning the printer to online status.
