HP LaserJet 2840 All-In-One Printer - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Speed
Add memory to the machine and it should resolve your issues. The 2840 comes with 96MB built-in and has one slot open for additional memory located under the right side cover. It can take a max of 224MB total. I would recommend adding a 128MB memory card to max out the machine. It takes 100 pin, 133MHz, SDRAM.
Don't by it from HP as they list it at $500.00 or so. Buy the clone memory for around $25.00 for 128MB.
Here's a link to source the memory:

Hope that helps you.
2840 printer -- can't print because document is
Basically it is telling you it doesn't have the memory required to process the page (usually because of graphics). If this is the case, you can try setting the resolution in the print driver to a lower setting (sometimes referred to as quality) so that the memory can handle the graphics.

Print error is too complex
The HP
support site says your USB cable broke the rules. It should not be more than 10 feet long, and should run directly from the computer to the printer, with no extension cables. (It should be a USB 2.0 or 3.0 compliant cable.)
If it is not practical for you to comply with this specification or you are certain you have a good cable, you can switch to low-speed USB using the directions on the page linked in the previous paragraph.
Don't ask me where the "page too complex" language came from. I would have used it for print processor or memory overrun and called your problem "Data transfer error."
Page too Complex
Sometimes you may come across this type of a problem when the device is not able to print the current page because of its complex nature.
The speed of the USB on the product needs to be lowered. This can be done by turning off the “High Speed USB”.
Given below are instructions to follow from the Secondary Service menu:
Press MENU button to access Secondary Service Menu.
Press the #2 button and use the < arrow to navigate to the High Speed USB selection. Press Enter > OFF > Enter.
Press the Cancel button twice to exit the Secondary Service Menu.
USB printing problems
Hi,
If the USB cable is too long, you may have problems... I would guess the cable length should be shorter than 10 to 15 feet.
More likely, the driver is not looking at the USB port...
Go to the driver "printer... properties... ports" and try "DOT or USB" ports...
If yoy see an "LPT!" or "IP_1" selected, it is not channeling the print job to the USB port.
LPT1 is a parallel port and the IP_1 is an ethernet port!
Sending fax displays comm.error
There are many things that can interfere with proper sending of faxes. Has anything changed in your office recently? Phones changed? Did you recently get DSL service from your phone provider? If so, you probably need a DSL filter on the line going to your fax machine. Try faxing to different faxes to make sure that it is not the person you are sending to that has the problem. If you are using Voice Over IP or VOIP phone, good luck, as older fax modems do not always play nice and you will likley need to speak with your VOIP provider to ensure they have their lines configured. If nothing has changed in your office then perhaps your modem has just failed, it does happen. A new cord between the jack and the machine is a a cheap test as well. If you have a telephone, unplug the fax and plug in the phone and see if you can make a call.
Yellow color does not printing
did you remember to remove the pull strip from the cartridge? Other possbility is a bad cartridge, if you still have the old cartridge, put it in and try a print. If that does not produce yellow then you might have a broken contact on the yellow cartridge bay.

Scanner error 5 indicates that the scanner head is not moving. This is most often caused by a bad scanner motor. If you open the ADF top, you should see the main scanner glass and then a small piece of glass. This smaller glass is held in place by one screw and a plastic retainer. Remove the screw and retainer, pop the glass out and smell the inside of the scanner. If you smell burned elecrical then that motor has definitely failed and you either have to try and find another scanner or find a donor motor. (the HP 3380, 3330 and M2727 all use the same motor).
