scanner error 5

Will not scan documents and hence Fax, Copy, and scan - no longer function.
However when connected to a PC device will print OK .......and in colour too !
Display advises "Turn of and then turn on again" to resolve the problem.......does NOT work.
Can anyone solve this problem? N.B. Malfunction occurred just outside of the one year Manufacturer's warranty !!!

It's a problem with the scanner unable to "see" its home sensor. The home sensor is a black & white film strip stuck onto the flatbed glass, just above where the scanner head homes. The printer needs to "see" the two little black 1mm square bumps in the white area. When the scanner head "homes", as it just disappears under the plastic it should move left and right as it looks at the home strip. If it keeps going and chatters at the right-stop it didn't see the home strip.

This can be caused by dirty mirrors, or lens in the scanner head (clean them);
Low or off color light (replace the bulb or high voltage power board on bottom of scanner head);
Broken, cracked, or loose scanner head ribbon cable (replace or repair);
Dirty or crooked home sensor film strip (I had one of these: the black & white film strip stuck to the flatbed glass was slightly crooked, it doesn't take much!)
Dirty slide bar (clean & oil);
Bad stepper motor, bad scanner PCBA (replace).

Thanks CoolDragon. Ifollowed your advice and eventually replaced it.

After trying to pull out and reseat the fuser a few times (I would even get one or two prints out of it each time), I finally ordered another fuser and problem has gone away. I did google and purchasing site searches (pricegrabber, pricewatch, etc) and found a decent priced site, that also gave discount for your returned bad unit (they gave you so many days to return it), otherwise they'd charge your credit card for the extra dsicount they had origanlly given.

Printing on right side only

I installed remanufactured yellow, magenta and cyan cartridges at the same time. Although I was printing black text just fine before the change, afterwards all four colors are printing on the right side only...fading from normal print on the extreme right to faint print in the middle and to nothing at all left of center. I have seen this problem described elsewhere and a discussion of a possible carousel misalignment. I am doubtful this is my problem, however, because the right color cartridge is showing when I open the panel after I press the cartridge rotation button. Can this nevertheless be a carousel alignment problem even anyway? And if it isn't a carousel alignment problem, what else could it possibly be? I have a service manual and the mechanical know-how to take it apart, if necessary, but that will be a last resort.....

ok, for those who are having troubles releasing the clutch.
when i fixed my printer, i didnt even know there was such a release.

i fixed it in an other way (not for the faint hearted)
open the printer, remove all cartridges and photoconducter unit.

when misalligned, you will notice the guides where the toner cartiridges slide into place, left and right, are shifted.
the part of the printer body guides misalign with the carousel guides.

basically, what you need is a big screwdriver.
push the big screwdriver on the right side between the carousel and the body.
the black plastic ferriswheel will bend inwards, enough to go free from the little white driving gear wheel.
now move the right ferris wheel 1 notch into position.
ready. reinstall toners etc.

be carefull not to break it.
it does work, done it on 3 machines now.

the only reason why this happens which i could find,
is that there was a toner cartridge that is stuck.
feel if you can rotate the white cartridge gear by hand.
if not, that is your problem.

possible lesson:
do not over fill your cartridge.
it is perfectly possible to refill, done that many times with these machines, but dont overfill.
ot maybe it is moist in the toner or something.
these cartridges dont have eternal life

good luck, dj

Fuser Error 50.1 Fuser is hot. What is a fuser?

My hp laser jet 3500 is showing an error message in the dispaly window. It says "50.1 Fuser Error. Fuser is hot. Press both sides of fuser to ensure it is fully seated." What is the fuser and where is it located? my all in one displays error 50.1 fuser

MAKE SURE THE PRINTER IS OFF AND INPLUGED BEFORE YOU START! The fuser is located in the back of the printer. You should see two blue pads where your index finger and thumb (on both hands) should pinch together then pull the fuser out. Re-seat the fuser back into its original position and wait 20 minutes before turnging Unit back on. If you do not wait 20 mins then the 50 error will appear again even if the problem is fix. Once you wait 20 minutes and it still gives you a 50 error you must replace the fuser. I have a great place to purchase fuser so let me know if you nee contact info!

Your problem is in the fuser. 50.2 means the fuser is not reaching temerature properly in the allotted time. It either has a burned out ceramic heating element or thermistor (hi/low thermometer).

Here's a link to a free service manual that will walk you through testing it.

Hope that helps you. If so hit it with a FIXYA rating. :o)

Memory Supply Error 10.00.00 The printer is unable to read or write to the print

cartridge e-label, or the e-label is not on the cartridge.

Basically what is happening is the printer cannot read the small chip on the toner cartridge. The chip is located on toner cartridge as it is inserted into the printer. 1 - Make sure the toner is firmly seated into the printer. 2 - Power cycle the printer with the toner out of the printer. Install the toner back into the printer. 3 - Install another toner cartridge. 3 - Verify that the e-label connector is firmly seated in connector

Solved for HP Laserjet P1606DN
I started getting this error when I moved my printer from my obvious back home.
Turns out there is a spring like object that got shifted at the front of the printer.
The video below shows how to fix it. Its in Hindi, but just watch and follow what he does.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ_oI6-6phs
I had pull to my printer a part to get to the spring. I used the video below for my P1606DN model. You will have to look up a similar instructional video for your specific model.
