HP LaserJet 1020 Printer - Page 7 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
HP 1020 Error Message
Had the same problem. Changed cartridge. Still didn't work. I suggest taking out cartridge and examining inside of printer carefully. I found a piece of balloon and a hair tie (aargh!, my kids). Works now.
Just wanted to post this as one more thing to check before junking the printer or spending money on HP support.
Black lines on the right side
The vertical black line at the right-hand side of the page when the printed document includes an image is a problem with all currently available HP Laserjet 1018, 1020 and 1022 drivers. While waiting for HP to fix the problem (they haven't even acknowledged it yet in their webpage) you can bypass it thus: a) Click on the 'Properties' button. b) Click on 'Finishing' and select 'FastRes1200' (this makes the line narrower). c) Click on 'Basics' and select 'Rotated', i.e. printing the page from bottom to top (this elliminates the line completely, in combination with 'b' above). This is a home-made solution I found after numerous trial-and-error attempts and having downloaded several drivers from the web.
As a token respect to all of us who have paid money to buy these printers, I hope HP will soon recognize and solve the problem.

Plugged 220v Mistake
If the printer is designed for 110v and you have plugged it into 220v then most like you have damaged your printer beyond repair. The cost of repairs may be slightly less than the cost of a new printer.
Tray setting of HP laserjet 1020 printer
This can be done i several ways.If your printer is a network-model, you can enter the printers IP-address into your favorite web-browser and set the settings as you want from the web-interface.If your printer is a USB-model, you have to download the software for the LaserJet 1020. This package contains a software called Toolbox, and that's the software you need to set proper settings in your tray. Follow the link for downloading the Toolbox-package.http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software8/COL14041/lj-39322-2/hp_LJ_1020-1022_Full_Solution.exe
Jam on roller
I had many jams using a Kodak printer, but lately I've been fanning the paper, which they may have told me to do, but I didn't know how to do it. Here is a step by step way to do it. Take the stack of paper you plan on using in your printer & straighten it by taking it by each side & tapping it on a surface (like a desk top). Bend the stack of paper as if going to fold it in half. On one side, the stack is fanned out. Grab the paper on the long sides with both hands & slide it into the printer tray. Go ahead & print, I've had fewer jams since loading my paper this way. Give it a try, see if it works for you!!!
Printer rolling not sotp
Try to unplug the printer from the pc. Turn it on and let it roll. I believe the print/roll command should abort after a while.
