First of all, please uninstall and reinstall the software and the driver. Don't ignore to uninstall before you uninstall. Since you didn't mention the operating system installed on your computer, I can't make the uninstall process specific, but you have to do it from the Control Panel (i think your computer has a windows Operating System installed on it). Once it's uninstalled, restart your computer and reinstall the same. Install all the hp software that came with the printer's CD.
After it's reinstalled, try again and also change/swap the U.S.B. port.
If the problem persists, you have to follow these instructions
(Click here), open the link and click the Operating System's name installed on your computer...eg.. windows xp...and so on..
[I direct you to the site with the link coz can't give you the exact instruction since the steps and methods vary for different Operating Systems]
If it seems nothing is helpful, then please try the printer on another computer to make sure it works on another system. If it works, then your computer has a problem, perhaps communication and you'll need to clear all the drivers related to HP from the computer, or it's also possible that the you computer has a usb issue, possibly the usb port or etc...
Let me know with more details including the name of the Operating System installed on your computer.. if in case you need further help from me.
Good luck.
Thanks for using
