are you going to spend hard cash on this junk its old and worth Zero now try a new battery, oops those are expensive. i see working presario CQ50 for $30 working not working worth nothing its worth at best the cost of potted plant. why fool with it>? or spend cash on any COMPAQ.? got to "GOODwill" fine a 10 year or newer system. best advice of all that. one that works too.

To fix an unresponsive touchpad on your laptop/desktop XP Home, XPPro:
Reactivate it by using the Function key on the keyboard and the Fn key.

This process is different for each computer manufacturer.
If unsure which Function key enables and disables the touchpad, try each one at a time and then
attempt to use the touchpad after each one.

A...Locate the "Fn" key of the laptop keyboard.
The "Fn" key has different colored text or the key is a different color.
B...Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.
The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.
C...Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key at the same time to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.
Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works. Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.
Note: Mac computers use "F2" to enable and disable the touchpad.

First thought check for the wireless switch. It is normally located on side of the laptop, some models have this button above the keyboard. Make sure it is turned on. You can normally tell if it is by the color of the light by the switch. Blue = on, Red = off.

If this is not the case answer the following question to help narrow the search:

1. Has the computer connected to this network before?
2. Can the computer connect to anyother network (e.i. at a friends house)
3. Were any updates install?

install the wireless driver and check it and also update the bios. i suggest you to contact compaq to get the exact bios web link.

How dead is the hard drive. will it boot up sometimes or it never boots? Does it make any noises or it runs as normal? If it let's you boot sometime but wont let you use it for long enough to get your data the solution i would try would be any Linux live CD. Download Ubuntu bootable CD and boot from that. Try and access your hard drive then. See what you get. If your hard drive is really dead though there's nothing you can do yourself you need to get it some specialized service where they can recover HD's like this. Good luck

You can get it reattached. Take your computer to the repairman's.... check for reasonable price because some have the part in store while others make you pay more for "ordering" the new part. Replacement/getting a new one depend on how badly the part was damaged.

Replace the memory sticks one at a time in each slot one at a time. If that doesn't work, reseat the lcd cable from the back of the lcd and to where it connects to the motherboard.

If the hard drive light is still running like its loading up windows then at that point, replace the lcd screen and cable cause that means voltage isn't getting thru the cable to get to the screen.

It sounds like there is a cable / ribbon that is not connecting properly.
could be a good idear to take it to a shop if you can't do it your self.

remove the memory ... try again ...

there is the possibility your memory was not seated correctly and/or it is not the correct memory.

remove it to get going again ...

please go to www.4allmemory.com and have them scan your computer. They will make recommendations based on that scan. Compare what you got with their recommendation.

I'm sorry to say this sounds like a system board failure. On my HP DV200t, a very similiar issue occured, eventually only the led where you plug in the power cord would turn blue. I replaced the system board and all the issues went away.

ive had the same problem with my toshiba...what might sollve your problem is to take the battery out and jus run it off the ac power...chances are that your battery will not be able to retain a charge.

Have you tried the below steps :-

Remove all power (battery and adapter)
Hold down the power ON button for 30secs (dispersing all internal voltage)
Plug the power adapter in only (for the moment)
Turn on.


Are you certain the ac adapter is fine? Have you tested it with a meter? Also, one of the most common problems seen in "more used" laptops is the power jack itself. These jacks ofen wear or break off the board because it is constantly being plugged in & unplugged. Sometimes a simple solder job can fix this.
You will have to decide if it is worth the "free" price. If you have some time, some skill, and some patience, go ahead and dig deeper. I wouldnt go throwing alot of money into it, but it may be worth a few hours of time


If yes, still getting only blinks.......More likely Hard Drive has Gone!!!!

IF THE WILL NOT BOOT REMOVE THE BATTERY THEN CONNECT ONLY THE CHARGER DIRECT... IN IF NOT BUT ON CHECT THE INVERTER OF LCD AND LCD CABLE WHY NOT BOOT..MAYBE DISPLAY PROBLEM..

ABOUT THE AUTOSHUTOFF.. POWER SHORTAGE NEED TO OPEN THE PC THEN CHECK THE BOARD, WHY THE SYSTEM AUTO SHUT OFF,, CHECK THE REGULATOR AND OTHER IC'S AND CHIPS

plz download the right drivers for ur wirless card and plz manually configure ur wireless connection from my network places and then try restarting your notebook and see if it works.
