Where can I get a free service manual for an MS180C Stihl chainsaw?

Service manual available at this link https://www.manualowl.com/p/Stihl/MS-180-C-BE/Manual/191878 To replace the cylinder and piston is fairly straight forward. Take off the bar and machine top cover and starter pull cover. Remove the handle by removing the black plugs and undoing the anti-vibe springs. Remove the choke and throttle linkages and carb. Remove the exhaust and ignition module. Remove the 'E' clip, washer, clutch drum and roller bearing. The whole cylinder unit will now come out of the unit with a bit of fiddling to get the inlet manifold out. Remove the plastic ring and inlet manifold. Then undo the base of the cylinder unit and carefully pull out the crank and piston. Clean the top of the piston to understand which way round the piston has been fitted, There should be a little arrow showing the direction on top of the piston. The new one will have to go in the same way. With long nose pliers take out one of the spring clips holding the gudgeon pin in place and remove the pin to release the piston. Refitting is a case of putting everything back in the reverse order. Be careful when refitting the inlet manifold to the cylinder as the small breather piece on the cylinder side must fit into the small hole in the cylinder block below the inlet manifold. If the manifold is more than a couple of years old it will probably be stiff and will need to be replaced! I strongly suggest that as you take the thing apart you make careful not of what went where so you can refit it to the same location. Also when fitting the new piston into the cylinder lubricate it with oil to make it easier.

How do you get the flywheel off of a ms170stihl powersaw

You need a puller to pull the flywheel off the taper on the crankshaft. The puller has two arms that fit over the sides of the flywheel and are joined to a bar that has a threaded bolt running through the centre. It is called a bearing puller. Make sure the hooks that engage behind the flywheel go behind the two 'thicker areas of the flywheel and not behind the air fins. Wind the centre bolt of the puller into the end of the crankshaft until tight then with a bit more pressure the flywheel should come off the taper.

What kind of oil and gas mixture to I use for my stihl kombi?

When you buy the 5L of unleaded Petrol (the same as a car uses), mix with the recommended amount of 2 stroke Stihl oil as marked on the container that the Stihl 2 stroke oil comes in. Do not use any make of oil other than Stihl or Husqvarna 2 Stroke. I have come across so many people who have tried to cut corners by buying cheaper oil. If you are asking the question you are obviously not going to use the saw to cut down hundreds of trees so for a few pence/cents more for each fill, give the saw the best chance to last. I always mix the can with 2 stroke oil as soon as I arrive home from the petrol station and MARK the can very obviously as 2 stroke. If you don't use the mixture within 1 month, it is a good idea to use it up in your garden mower. That is as long as the mower does not have a catalytic converter. It will work fine on the very weak oil mixture that modern saws require.

The rope broke when I tried to start the chainsaw. How do I replace it?

Your rewind spring is now sprung. Remove recoil assy ( the part your rope slides into). Remove all old rope remnants and rewind the spring. Install new rope, tie it off and slowly release spring rewinding the rope.

Stihl brake assembly diagram

Oh man, you shouldn't be monkeying around in there. Bring it to a STIHL dealer and make him let you watch, but don't screw with that again, that's a big safety no-no and another reason why STIHL doesn't sell out to lowes or the home cheapo.
