Same thing happened to me. No display, no menu, no S-video output while in camera mode, but in VCR mode all was OK. Turning power off and on did not help until I also disconnected the AC power adapter. BTW, Mr. Riggins did not read the question before he answered.

The selector switch may be out of time. A plastic gear may have come loose from the shaft it's mounted to. A thorough inspection is necessary to find the failed part.

Suggestion: Remove the memory chip from the Canon and get a reader that plugs directly into your USB port on the vaio. Available online or at any computer shop or big box store. You should be able to open the photos directly from the chip. They'll be in a DCIM folder - you may have to easter-egg around a bit, or search for *.jpg Lots faster and less frustrating than the camera's software interface.

Do you mean distortion from shooting at wider angles? If you, you'll either need to do it when you import the video into your editing program or not use such a wide angle in your shots.

Are you using the proper Firewire cable to connect? Also, the GL2 has had issue with the Firewire port going bad. Try a different cable and see if that helps. It can't be a USB-Firewire cable either.

You cannot do any corrections. The video tracking signal is set. The best that you could do is use editing software to try and crop it.

I doubt it is something in the settings. Step 1: The tape may be causing the camera to "reject" it. In other words, it thinks there is something wrong with the tape so it is warning you with the error message. Perhaps the cassette has been damaged slightly. This error can also happen when the tape has been used often or taped over a few times. MiniDV tapes are not media that can be recorded over and over again. Solution: Try using a new tape. 2. The camera may need to be cleaned. The recording heads may be dirty and it doesn't matter what tape is placed in there. Solution: Purchase a cleaning tape from a consumer electronics store. Make sure you read the directions very carefully. These are cheap fixes. If it works, great. It would also be good to know what it CAN do. Does it play in the VCR mode? Does it record? And can you view it in the VCR mode? Has it changed in any other way, i.e. is it making a strange noise when it starts to rewind, when before it didn't? Let me know how it goes.

I am sorry I do not have a ready answer for that. Just remove the backup battery and try the camera. You can't hurt anything, and the worst is you have to reset your time and date.

Yes, it does and should be done in the camera and each time you download the images just to keep it in best operating condition. Switch to VCR/Playback mode and reformat the card from the menu option (see your manual). Also note that if you're having issues with the camera reading a card be sure it is one that can be used and does not exceed the GL2's maximum card size (though I don't recall what that is).

The GL2 uses SD cards, which max out at 2GB. It will not use higher-capacity SDHC cards.

The GL2 works with SD cards. Your 16GB card is an SDHC card. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in devices not designed for them. You need to use an SD card, 2GB or smaller.

Turn off the power saver mode. I did it and it works!
