White scree on monitor at power up

That is not a good sign, this indicates the LCD panel display is failing, I would use until it completely goes, and replace the monitor with a new one , cheaper in the long run.

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). Turn on then the oranges light will on

When it lights up the orange light, that means that the monitor is not getting a signal from the computer.
The things to try (from simplest to most complex) are:

  1. Make sure the computer is on and not in "sleep" mode -- press the "Caps Lock" key and see if it lights up the caps-lock light on the keyboard.
  2. Make sure the video cable is connected from the computer to the monitor (that the cable hasn't come loose on either end)
  3. If your monitor has multiple inputs, make sure it's set to the right (probably analog VGA or DVI) input
  4. If your computer has more than one video output (like a laptop with it's internal screen plus the external monitor) then make sure the external monitor is enabled
If none of those solve it, post a comment back here and we can dive in to the more complex tests

I have no picture when I power on the monitor. The

uopftball, You will need to see some of the longer (6 to 10minute) video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" / "LCD monitor repair" @ YOUTUBE and understand some basic principles of how a typical lcd monitor lights-up it's LCD glass panel. As for being the "same" concept as a laptop, Yes! and NO. Do you know anything about how the fluorescent lamps are lit on the rear side of the lcd panel? Changing a lcd on a laptop is not same as inspecting and repairing a switch-mode-power-supply or CCFL inverter (electronic ballast) power supply. The hardest part of monitor disassembly is removing the plastic rear cover from the plastic front bezel. There are usually 2 or 3 printed circuit boards( 3 in older) Inspect the SMPS for frosty looking COLD solder joints and bad electrolytic filter capacitors (swollen and possibly leaking) Pics can be viewed @ www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm and all over the net. let me know what you find inside the metal ventilated covers on rear of lcd panel. 12fixlouie

Monitor setting panel on permenantly

mrjk65, If monitor still has bright, crisp images displayed on the LCD panel your monitor could be worth saving! Unplug unit from wall outlet and plug it back in! If same problem occurs then most likely problem could be a DC voltage is slightly "out of spec" or a settings panel push switch may have failed. My guess is that when STRANGE out of the BLUE things start to happen for no reason, I would suspect the "switch-mode-power-supply" to be the item at FAULT. Visit YOUTUBE for vids of "LCD monitor disassembly" , "LCD monitor repair" . You will be glad you did. Also try www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm , www.lcdparts.net , www.badcaps.net for more info. hope this helps. Bye for now. 12fixlouie.

Screen comes on but goes dim within seconds

The inverter in the monitor is probably going bad. It can be replaced, depending on the size/age of the monitor. Many times it is cheaper to buy a new one than to have it fixed.

If you are a little handy, and can get the monitor open, you can find the inverter and replace it. The monitors have a high voltage area you have to be very careful around.

New inverters range from $30-75. They are very specific to the model of monitor. The best way to find one is to get to the inverter and search for the numbers printed on it.

A repair might cost you $100+
