Hotpoint CTF15ELD top freezer refrigerator - freezer O.K. refrig too warm

It's likely the door was inadvertently left open, and the cold air passages from the freezer have built up enough ice that the cold air from the freezer has no way to enter the refrigerator. Check the cealing of the refrigerator. If you can see or feel ice in the passages between the freezer and fridge, you can probably solve the problem by finding a safe temporary home for your food, and leaving the refrigerator unplugged overnight.

Auto defrost freezer always smells musty/moldy when door is open

Unless the drain is partially plugged off you should not have any moisture in the freezer creating the musty moldy smell. I would clean out the freezer and make sure the drain is clear. If it keeps coming back you may have a crack ing the lining inside the freezer and moisture sealing in. Not a lot you can do with that unfortunately, you can try to seal it up but there are only a couple products i know about that will work in that temp and there not cheap Good luck

How to set refrig temp settings

The normal factory settings are usually directly in the middle for machines that have dials and for electronic controls the freezer should be 5 degrees F of below and the fresh food side should be between 34-38 F. Water leaking from ceiling behind light bulb near

On your model the freezer is over the fresh food section and defrost coms about every eight hours. If by chance your condensate drain from freezer above becomes blocked behind that light shield the water from defrost will collect in a cup behind that shield and flow down into the fresh food section. Fan noisy, temperatures fine, freezer

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP

OR BECOME CLOGGED WITH ICE.
REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK

I have water accumulating in

You can not dis assemble the drain but you can poor hot water down it until it clears, it usually takes many tries of poring water and soaking it up with a rag before the drain clears.
To access the drain area just remove the bottom plate 2 screws, bottom plate, ice maker and back wall cover. You will find the drain under the ice.

Even after good cleaning drain

if when you pour hot water into the drain hole and water drains down through the hole the drain is clear,if water doesn't drain down the drain is still blocked,i use a steemer to clear the drain and install a heater in the drain so it doesn't happen again.you can buy a heater or make one out of the ground wire that's in a piece of house wire or strip the casing off of a piece of cable wire around 6 inches, stick it into the hole and wrap the other end around the heater in the freezer, when the heater turns on the wire also heats up keeping the drain from freezing up.if the drain is clear then you could have a problem with the ice maker or the fill valve is letting to much water flow through to the ice maker, you'll have to keep an eye on it when it fills to see what is causing the problem. Brown patch in linoleum, water leakage possibly

Check defrost cycle. It's not perfect. Resulting to over frosting around freezer and it clogs drain line. And also check the drain hose no tints or kinks by which drain water flow blocked..
But main reason is only due to defrost cycling malfunction.
First, locate the defrost timer which may hidden behindcorners of the fridge at the back bottom, in some models located in the ceilingof the fresh food section or behind the cold control cover. Once you locate thedefrost timer, slowly turn the screw in the middle of the defrost timer withstraight screwdriver until the fridge shuts off. Now it's in defrost. If thedefrost heater(s) starts, replace the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. Ifthe heater(s) does not start, unplug wire cord to check ohm test for continuityof heater. If continuity is there, plug cord wire which gives power 120volts(check specification) to heater. If heater no starts, bypass defrost thermostatby join the 2 wires in the defrost thermostat. If the heater now comes on,replace the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. If the heater itself is bad, replace it. Thanks and hope helpful.
