LG Flatron L1715S 17" LCD Monitor - Page 2 Questions & Answers
My LG Flatron L1715S works
No, sorry, it's not a simple fix. The usual reason an LCD monitor does this is because capacitors in the power supply fail. Then the inverter circuit which provides power for the backlight lamps doesn't work properly. In many cases, replacing the capacitors is all that's needed to fix the trouble, but it means opening the case, removing the bad parts, and obtaining and installing new ones. It's not a very difficult repair as far as repairs go, but it's going to need more than a screwdriver.
Many websites and videos are available that detail the repair procedure for different models, and capacitors are readily available from many sources. If you know someone who has some experience with electronic soldering, or you're willing to try it yourself, you might be able to rejuvenate this one. If not, you're probably best off buying a new monitor. Basic models are quite inexpensive now, and if you pay someone to fix yours it might cost nearly the same.
I want to check my warranty time
Hi ghostrider_t,
Usually the warranty which is being provided these days for monitors is 5 years, I too have the same model that you have described.
Please refer to the warrantly card that you have received along with the monitor so that you come to know the exact period of warranty , it would be in months or years.
hope this helps ...:)
My monitor name is =
More likely it is having dying power supply due to bad caps with domed tops which is very common failure in ALL LCD monitors as you can see in my albums.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed LG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Lg 17"lcd monitor is power
You will have to take your monitor apart to fix this problem. Once inside, you need to find the capacitor or capacitors that are blown. The will be round on top, instead of flat. A picture is far better than words for this one, and video is even better. There are some excellent videos on Youtube that show you how to find the bad capacitors and how to fix them. It is not difficult, if you know how to solder.
I have an LG 17"
First thing to do is determine whether the problem is the monitor or the PC.
Do you have another PC you could try the monitor on, or perhaps a friend will lend you a monitor for an hour or two?
Obviously if the display is ok on another monitor, then the problem is your monitor, however if the display is still "too big" then the problem is the PC.
By the way, when you say the display is "too large" what EXACTLY do you mean?
The monitor won't turn on
Look for bad caps with domed tops first.

Hello there,
This could basically indicate a bad connection either with the cable or inside the monitor. Try plugging in the monitor's vga cable tightly to the vga port on the computer; you could also twist or play with the cable as if you are aligning a wire inside. If it doesnt work, try to inspect the monitor for bad capacitors or parts that need resoldering.
Moreover, if this monitor is still under warranty, it is best to take it to an authorized LG service center. Thank you for using FixYa.

shut down the computer completely by pressing on the power button until no sound is heard. Then make sure that the screen is properly connected to the computer and turn on the computer. If this doesn't help, disconnect the cable that connects the screen with the computer, see that the connection looks fine (no broken pins) and then connect again to the computer.
SCREEN GOES BLACK AFTER A FEW SECONDS, HAVE TO
Look for bad caps with bulging tops (bad caps can look normal but have high ESR) first.
