robert_adams, your problem is not uncommon. How old is or how many in use hours does this monitor have? Is it under warranty? This sounds like bad power supply(SMPS and or Inverter) which are needed to generate an 800-1500v ac to light -up the thin, straight, Cold-Cathode-Fluorescent Tubes used for backlighting the LCD/FPD . If out of warranty Check to see about a swapout program. you send them your's+$50-$90 they send you same model refurbished(new ccf tubes and inverter/smps. or find local guy to do repair. But this one sounds like you could do it all by yourself. If you have a DMM and large magnifying glass, or 10x-30x inspection microscope you might be able to see the bad solder joints on the switch mode power supply and the swollen electrolytic capacitors on the board. look on youtube for videos of lcd monitor disassembly or lcd repair videos. Let me know what your going to do before you do it. I will guide you with hints and kinks. Ihave repaired 2 of these things. Here is hint #1 Take pictures as you disassemble!!! I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@ aol.com BYE for now.

Common problem in LCD monitor: bad caps (caps with domed tops or bottom seals).
As you can see in my albums of ALL brands.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The text reading on the screen is 772S L7025 AU M1 70ES05 and are always present over applications? If restoring factory defaults, changing resolution does not help then the monitor will need to be repaired, sorry.
Sylvania Cl772b monitor failed black sudddenly.
The PSU (power supply unit) seems to have gone. The power is reaching the unit, as shown by th green light in the power switch but is not going ahead of it. The psu needs job. lok inside the monitor and you will find a bulged capacitor. Needs a change with exactly the same specs unit.
Can not get this monitor to play sound on PC using
there is not a windows xp 5.1 so I am going to take a wild guess and you mean you want 5.1 surround sound
If your computer plays sound through its own speakers normally then you do not need a driver.
I took this from the FAQ
- Make sure the audio cable is plugged in to the back of the monitor and in to the Green port in the back of the computer.
- Press the Right Arrow button on the monitor itself and set the volume to 10.
- Double check your audio settings on your computer and make sure nothing is muted.
This is not one of the better monitors in this price range having only a VGA input but is suitable for most people.
Hooking up the monitor
She should not have a prioblem. The PC should recognize new devise and look for the driver. If it says that driver not found, Go to DriverGuide, this is a great website and you can download any driver for FREE. Install it then she should have noprobs.
One half of Monitor is pink
Bad LCD. That line is terminal - on the back of the pannel there is a circut board that can fail a line of pixels where they will no longer switch between colors. It's a common LCD problem, but for all intents and purposes its fatal.
