What does it mean when it says c:31:23 and blinks the eject symbol?
That is a condensation error. I have the same problem. When I put a tape in it won't let me record or play tapes. I have been trying for over a yr to get it to stop. If u record with digital 8mm then u can only transfer with dig8mm. When u try to play it on just a 8mm inwhich is probably analog. All u see is static like nothing on tape. If u fig.out how to get it off lmk. I've tried many things and no luck.

can play your cassette? if the picture is clear in play back mode,then there may be problem with the image sensor (CCD) in the camera,open the camera, measure the voltage at the CCD board if the voltage is not correct check the fuses on the mother board.

There is strip flexible cord that connects the LCD panel which moves along with the hinges and it is possible that the strip has failed. So please check the continuity of the cord to confirm. It is possible only the first few tracks are damaged as the touchscreen works.
The strip can be sourced from Sony but take consensus before you remove and take out the strip.

Make sure that you are using a Digital8 tape. There were 3 types of 8mm tapes made...Digital8, Hi8, and plain 8mm. This camcorder will only record on the Digital8 tape. There is a a tab on every tape that makes it impossible to record over. Check to see if that is in the wrong position. Also, check to make sure that you are not at the end of the tape. If none of the above has helped so far, there are a couple more things you can try yourself. You might try a different tape or run a Sony head cleaning tape for about 5 to 10 seconds. If you have tried all of this and still no luck, it is maybe time to take it to to an experienced technician for repair.

At first, you transfer only photos from memory card BY USB, if you want transfer video to your PC you need fireware cable, and fireware IN on your PC.
If you have all of these, you need software, such as Sony Vegas (they probably gave it to you with camera) or Ulead Video Studio, for transfer.
