Nope. The common cause of this is either dirty heads or an alignment. Try a head cleaner first or just run a blank tape from start to finish is scan mode (play then FF as a scan). That should resolve the problem. If not, then we'll go to the next step.

Firewire is the only way to do it unless you have a machine running Windows 98 as those are the only drivers available for this camera.

Safe gaurd mode can mean a number of different problems, most of the time being mechanical, if you are not a tech. you will need to take it in for service.

What you are going to want to do is by a capture card. Like pinnacle and it will come with software and everything you need. You can purchase an internal or an external. The photo navigator would only be for photos anyways. If you need any help locating this hardware/software let me know.

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video to your PC if your computer (PC) did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, & if your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too.

Your camcorder has only a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder, when capturing video just make sure your camera is in playback mode.

problem in main board. your auto focus is not working. send in to jvc or get another.. sorry... jvc is pretty reasonable

tape transport is bad. need to send in to jvc..best to get another one..sorry

your cameras CCD Charged coupled Device is defective go to your nearest jvc service station sandeep

there are fuses inside it possible, make sure you snap the battery in firm.

tape guides are out of adjustment, need to have brought in for service.

frist try to clean itor professional cleaned.

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.

That should work as long as the softwere driver are installed on your pc .

We too are having this problem. When we open our editing software, on the pc, to communicate with the camera, the camera responds with the pc, although there is no picture image showing on the pc and as a result we can't capture any video footage.

We are planning to try a different firewire cable, to assess whether that is the issue.

Cleaning may still be the problem. Try running the cleaning tape until it automatically stops (about 20 seconds). You may do 3 passes before giving up. If you still have a problem, you are going to need a servicer. Make sure you have a known good tape to test playback as the error is in any recent recording after the problem occured. You are mentioning that you are trying to transfer video though USB port, that is not possible, you have to connect the to the pc through the DV port from the camera to the Firewire port of the PC, if your PC doesnt have a Fire wire port, install a IEEE1394 firewire card in one of your PCI slots.
