Have you tried using another battery? Nine years old is much more than you can pay a rechargeable battery with the proper use and not very extensive. I think it's time to invest in a new battery. Now they are very cheap in the same brand, there are even other, known as "alternatives":

The only thing that you can try to do yourself is to run a head cleaner for about 5 to 10 seconds to see if that will clean up the heads. You might also try using direct power from an a/c adapter if you have one. Batteries that sit unused can go bad over time. Other than that, your mechanism may need repair or repairs may need to be done on the connections between your mechanism and your main pcb. Over time, those flex cables will oxidize and not make good contact with your board. These types of repairs should be done by an experienced technician.

The beeping is just an indicator that there is a problem with the camera. These can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, they're not user serviceable and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Yes, firewire or IEEE1394 also called iLink.
Most cameras have a 4 pin connection and Macs a 6, newer models use 9 pin.
iMovie should be on your Mac and this will capture the footage.

Disconnect the battery from the cam, it possible that it has a pocessor that is lock up and if youleave the battery out for a while it will reset back to normal.

Picture motion browser (PMB) is software supplied by Sony with their video cameras. You can download an updated copy at THIS LINK It is a bit of a folderol.

First install your pictures motion browser in laptop. Then paired them using firewire. You should see now the pop up info on your screen. Just click it to go further to download your photos. Or click your pictures motion browser manually to get download command. It is work quickly. NOTE : don't ever use other downloader software as it will work very very slow...

Either you have sent this message lots of times on subject, or 1000's of people like you have the same problem, maybe this is reason that people are not buying DVD cameras much today.
All I can say is try to do a Reset (see booklet) after that the disk should end, major problem is though with a DVD camera that does not end properly is the movie you think you filmed will not be on the disk anyway.
