Black screen flashes after initial power up

Possibly the backlights have failed. The screen part may be working normally. Get a bright light close to the front of the screen, see correct image faintly. Commonly it is failure of the high voltage inverter circuits that power the backlight fluorescent lamps. You can probably buy replacement circuit or repair the one you have. I have done this on another model. You need to search the web for experience of the same model. RDL.

Sony monitor

One possible cause of the this problem is the bad lamp assemblies due to poor soldering works, please see the pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Sony%20SDM-HS73/
The repair person should also look for bad caps in the power supply section.
You will need test lamps to test and verify if the lamps assemblies are good or not.

No picture Display when turned

This is not an inverter problem. The inverter only powers the fluorescent lamps in the back of the LCD panel.

It is probably a fault in the LCD data decoder circuit or a failing connector between the decoder circuit board and the glass LCD panel. If you took it in to a shop, they would probably charge you a full hour's labor minimum - compare that with the price of a new LCD monitor.

Will not retain screen image. Flashes the content

It appears you may have a bad backlight. If you can see the picture content with a strong light shining at an angle to the screen while it is dark, then it is definitely the backlight. Most sets shut down shortly after getting a failure signal from the backlight inverter although you do not mention that happening.

The backlight uses two or more Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) tubes, and they'll have the same flickering as a failing standard fluorescent tube. If the light has a pinkish cast to it, this is a common sign that one or both of the tubes is bad. You may see the flashing on the top or the bottom and the other half of the screen will be dark; this means one tube is dead and the other is dying.

What do you do when

Try to see if your signal cable from the systems unit is connected to the LCD. If it is connected, then that means that your VGA is not sending any signal, try connecting your LCD to another system unit and see if it works.

If there is discoloration then follow this

The discoloration problem is due to the near by magnetic field appliances like speakers which are very near to monitors ...
so what you have to do is just keep some distance to the monitor from the speakers and other magnetic appliances and then press menu button & just give degauss..

Also check the DC filter caps.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

This monitor has known problem with the CCFL assmblies.
Best to get new switch board assmbly if that is the case, I never run into one with broken switch yet in thsi model.
You can get this tactile switch from www.mouser.com or www.digikey.com just have to match the foot print and height.
