Do I HAVE to use Maxell dvd-r
Provided you check that what you are buying is DVD-R or DVD-RW (as opposed to +R or +RW), it should work.
Best thing is probably to buy one or two and see how you get on.
There's not many places make DVDs - and an awful lot of badge engineering goes on. You could download a useful bit of freeware from http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ to help you find out which factory your Maxell discs have come from - and which of your cheap alternatives actually hail from the same stable.

NEED FINALIZING DVD
Hi!! My husband just sat down and finally figured this out,
You have to use disc navigation, then wait for the thumbnails to show up and then push menu and scroll down three times to the disc, and then choose finallize and then tell it yes. You do have to have it plugged into the a/c adapter tho in order to do this for some reason.
Hope this helps,
Gin

It tells me card error?
Make sure you truly have an SD card. If it's 4GB or larger then it's actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot it is electronically incompatible and will not work in this camcorder.

I am using an sd
Sorry, but as far as I know, Hitachi camcorders cannot record video directly onto an SD card. You have to set the camcorder to DVD. It can only record video and pictures on a DVD, and only pictures on an SD card.

I had the same problem - you are (as I was) turning off the camera too soon after you hit the stop button after recording a scene. Wait until the word "disc access" appears (about 5 seconds after you hit the stop button. This "marks" the end of the scene. I just don't know how to edit that scene out or if it will delete it out. I know after finalizing the disc that scene will pause for a while (10 to 20 seconds even) when you watch it through the DVD player to the TV.

Tried to eject disc from
Hi Igniscol,
In this case you can try using a direct plug of AV adapter, this will possibly supply appropriate power and hence can help you eject the disc.
If the above solution does not work then press the reset button behind the LCD screen and it should solve the problem.
Hope this helps..:)
