I have a Dell cpu and a Dell flat screen monitor .

try to hook it up to a different monitor first to verify its the monitor problem and not a bios, driver, or pc problem. if an alternate monitor works, then you know something happened to you original display! If the alternate does not work either, but it does work other machines, then its something else: graphics card, wiring, etc. hope this analysis quickens your solution.

Dell monitor power button is flashing

I had the same problem. After buying another monitor and before throwing this one away I thought I would try plugging it in since it was sitting for a day. I still received the flashing light until I gave it a slight hit on the back side, it is now working fine.

BLINKING GREEN LIGHT

You have shorted out transistors in the backlight inverter circuits.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

If it has a standard vga plug, and you have Windows 2k, XP, Vista, or Windows 7, it should recognize it. You might have to reboot after it does.

Dell Flat Screen off/on switch broken

Mohons, Get with the the program, will ya!! A video clip is worth a thousand words!! Try a search at YOUTUBE for the longer 6 to 10 minute video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair". Here is a clue. "Parting the rear cover from the front plastic bezel is the hardest part." Go watch some video. You will be glad you did. And while your inside the monitor, why don't you check the "switch-mode-power-supply board for any swollen and/or leaky electrolytic filter capacitors! Do you have an OHM-Meter or DVM to check the switch? Bye for now. 12fixlouie
ps. could be SMPS is not "listening" to a GOOD switch!

The main problem is usually the cable. Next is video card driver. Next is power supply for the monitor. Questions to ask: Does the power light come on? Does it work with another computer?
