Sony SDM-HS74P/S 17" LCD Monitor Questions & Answers
All of a sudden, the
Very doubtful. Either you have a defective or corrupt display driver, or possibly a malware infection. Is that a laptop or notebook computer? If so, is there a VGA port for an external monitor? If do, try using a known good external monitor.
Monitor ont stay on
It can be bad caps in the power supply, bad backlights inverter circuits, bad lamps (black screen).
You will have to open it up and troubleshoot it.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SONY and other monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

I think my monitor and/or driver /cable is causing
blue screen error is not there because of monitor's driver
there are others reasons like
1. smps supply may be faulty you may swap it with some other
2. recently software is faulty
3. mother board is faulty
My Sony SDM-HS74P display does not stay on.
I have the same issue and wrote the monitor off for now after checking all cables (and a different computer). The logic circuitry and panel are sill ok as I can see a faint image with proper lighting and close inspection, but no backlight makes it useless.
Since there are 4 lamps (CCFLs) on this model, the problem likely is not there but on the inverter circuitry driving them. This does not look easy to replace as this is part of a bigger board.
It looks like some could repair by changing a few (or even one) component on the board, but unless your are used to this (de-soldering and soldering back), you are kind of stuck.
I will attempt this if I have time as I hate junking 99.9% ok hardware. In your case since this is an old monitor you should just replace it if not technically (on the electronics side) apt.
Screen flickers. Color is off until it warms up
you have a bad power supply. remove rear cover look for crowned or leaking capacitors. reomve bad ones by desolding. take to electronics arts store and get new ones. resolder and good to go.
MY SONY SDM-HS74P
You open the inverter unit and check any dry soldering is there. Some times dry joints inside the inverter unit cause this type of problems.
Sony SDM-HS74P/S 17 - Monitor won't stay on the right picture
When the screen turns black again take a flashlight and shine it in the bottom left hand corner where the Windows Start button is located. If you can see a faint image then your back light is failing. If that?s not the case the next step would be to attach another monitor to your computer to see if the problem disappears. If it does that points to the monitor, if it doesn?t then we need to take a look at the computer itself.
