Dell flat screen monitor E173FPc
godiac, What does the flashlight trick tell you? I suspect that the "switch-mode-power-supply" has detected a fault with itself or the CCFL "inverter supply" and is now in partial of full shutdown trying to save itself from a catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure. e.g. sparks, smoke, fire. Learn flashlight trick for gross status check of unit's SMPS! It might be possible to repair(refurbish) unit for $8 on a DIY quest! If no warranty available or no possible DELL cash+old for refurbed unit then look into doing DIY fix. Backlight out
I'm going to assume at this point that you know what you're doing, and are familiar with the dangerous voltages present.
According to this website, one of these two choices fits your 17 inch monitor. They indicate the Backlight Lamps fit several models. To be SURE, check the part number of your Backlight Lamp, and see if it matches.

How to open the flat screen
Francois, If you really want to remove the pedestal and then rear plastic cover from the front BEZEL, then why don't you visit YOUTUBE and view some video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair" to see how to "PART" the cover from the bezel!!! There sure is a lot of stuff to see on YOUTUBE. HINT!!! YOU must protect the LCD PANEL at all times!!! GOOD LUCK, 12fixlouie
My monitor will not stay on
have you tried running your pc in safe mode, to do this press f12 on start upjust before you see the loading windows bar. choose safe mode if this works then remove you orig video drivers and restart pc.
The monitor will come on for a couple of seconds
roylkimcrouc, Yes! You too will need to go visit YOUTUBE and view some video clips (6-10min ones) of "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair" JUST FYI !! Also try
www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm for more on what may ail your LCD. You will not fix the problem inside your monitor!! Once you KNOW what is wrong with your "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" power supply(inverter) and the reason that your monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply" has gone into partial or full SHUTDOWN mode and is trying to save itself from having a catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure, (e.g. sparks, smoke, fire) then you WILL know all the questions to ask that you didn't ask above!!! Sure, you can trade-in your E173 for a new $160 wide screen. but the technician in the backroom will with a little LUCK put less than $8 in parts into you're old E173 and maybe sell it to a friend for $40. There are other options. See if DELL still supports the E173, and if so will they do a cash+old swapout for a factory refurbished unit. Maybe after doing the YOUTUBE thing, you might try your luck at "do it yourself" fix. Hpoe to hear back from you. I'm 12fixlouie aka louie12fix on fixya. Bye for now.
My MAC G4 display has green and pink vertical
1. Try on another monitor to rule out VGA card.
// If overclocked return to default values, disable automatic overclocking if selected in BIOS, check cooling
2. Try another cable, if both VGA and DVI connections exist try switching between them ( cables )
