Cannot display video mode
The problem is your video card not able to communicate properly with the hardware. To solve this problem you need to install the drivers for your video card. In case you already installed it (long time ago), you need to update the drivers. Check the video card manufacturer for updates.
Good luck.

There are loosed contacts between scaler board and flex-cables, at
least those where you have color lines. These cables are glued with
anisotropic compound and not such easy to fix, to make it right you
shall heat junctions to certain temperature and press the cable down to
surface with certain pressure, which is specified for compound used in
there - consider as unknown.
The easiest way to get rid of these lines is to press flex-cables with something like piece of foam rubber.
Disconnect
all cables coming from the display to boards, take the chassis off,
unscrew metal cover from back side of display to get access to the
scaler. Now, if you can, connect display back to boards (you may need
to take boards off the chassis) and turn on the monitor. This will help
you to find exactly loosed spot. Gently pressing to junctions of
flex-cable to scaler PCB with finger observe the behavior of color
lines on the display. Then put there thin piece of foam and fix with
metal cover. That will work for awhile.
Dell E173FPs LCD screen (4 years old) is blank,
Replacing transistors would be the last thing in that troubleshooting. First, check all electrolytic capacitors if there are any of them "bubbled", replace those. Next, if there is the fuse used for supplying DC voltage to the inverter area, take it off and check if LED will still blink as before. If there's no such fuse, you can cut the trace, supplying DC voltage to the inverter, another words, you need to unload inverter from power supply and check LED behavior then, if it will stay steady, then next steps will be to troubleshoot the inverter, otherwise, using ohmmeter ring all capacitors and diodes in the power supply part, especially connected to PWM chip at primary side of pulse transformer. By the way, what kind of chip is there?
Monitor is black but power light is blinking
Firstly check the power cables nd VGA port is it proper or not nd then if this is proper then ur problem might be in RAM remove the ram and rub it with eraser nd insert it again nd check CMOS battery also ....u will surely get a positive result....

Monitor says Step 2: Self
It is in self-calibration mode.
What were you doing just prior to this incident?
Was the PC on - and the monitor shut off??
Were you just starting up?
More information is helpful for diagnosing remotely.
Thanks :D

Hello,
You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitorswill
blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts calledcapacitors
overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you aregood at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site
www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htmYou
can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad
parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should
workfine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and
-connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one
thesame way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

AS501 Monitor Problem
Your monitor have a bad condensatorin the PSU.
The only thing to do is to replace the Power Supply Unit (very expensive) or if you have electronic tools, found and replace that condensator.(cheaper way...)

Below you will find my recommendations for troubleshooting this issue:
1. Reseat the power cord and verify a good power source.
To reseat the power cord, follow the steps below:
1.1 Power down the system.
1.2 Unplug the power cord.
1.3 Wait approximately one minute.
1.4 Reseat the power cord.
1.5 Verify that the power cord is plugged directly into a known good power outlet.
2. Verify that the monitor is receiving power from a known good outlet and bypass any power strips.
To test the power outlet, perform the following steps:
2.1 Unplug the monitor power cable from the power outlet.
2.2 Plug in a different device, and verify that the device is operational.
2.3 If there is no power try another outlet. Remove any power strips and try plugging directly into the main power outlet.
3. Verify the monitor is powered on and the power button is engaged.
Ensure that the monitor is powered on and that the power button is fully engaged. To do so, check the power LED on the front of the monitor; it should be lit.
NOTE: There are two types of power switches:
A mechanical switch characterized by a long travel. You have to push it further and you will hear an audible click.
An electrical switch that has a short travel and almost no click.
A lit monitor LED can be any of the following:
* Green
* Blinking green
* Yellow
* Blinking yellow
* A combination, such as alternating green and yellow
Any of these states indicate the monitor is receiving power and that you should proceed.
4. Swap power cables.
To try a known good power cable on the monitor, follow the instructions below:
4.1 Turn off a working monitor.
4.2 Unplug the cable from the back of the working monitor, and unplug the cable from the wall.
4.3 Unplug the cable from the monitor in question.
4.4 Plug in the cable that came from the working monitor.
5. Run the monitor self test.
To run the monitor self test, perform the following steps:
5.1 Power off both the computer and the monitor.
5.2 Unplug the video cable from the computer or video card.
5.3 Reseat the power cord to the monitor, ensuring it is plugged into a known-good outlet.
5.4 Power on the monitor.
NOTE: The monitor self test will move around on some monitor models. If the monitor self test moves, allow it to move to the affected areas of the monitor to check for the problem described.
If the Self test failed, it's possible that the monitor is faulty. Contact dell to check if it's still under warranty so they can replace it.
Dell monitor
This is most likely the power inverter board in the monitor - this is
common in many monitors. If it started taking longer and longer to
display an image, and the power light is blinking on-and-off, that's
most likely the problem.
You can confirm that it's actually the monitor and not your computer
or the cable by plugging in another monitor if you have one to try. If
it's under warranty, send it back, if not, there are inverter boards
for many common models of LCD monitors that are replaceable. The board
can run anywhere from $50 on up. Depending on how old your monitor is,
and how much you've invested into it, you may find it better to just
replace it with a gently used one from ebay.

It sounds like your video card may be kaput. Can you try another monitor on it? If you use a monitor that you know works, and it does the same thing - then your video card has failed.
Alternately, you can try a different card and the same monitor.
