Hi
I had the same problem and the solution is very simple:
Remove bottom plate by unscreewing the 7 screews (for one of them you must open the viewfinder) and make sure the ribbon
cables are connected securely . You just need to push genty the ribbon cabbles and reposition the plate, this should solve
the problem.

How can I transfer a
You must have a Firewire cable to transfer video from the camera to the pc. It can't be done with the USB cable. That's only good for transfering still photos. If your computer doesn't have a Fireware connection, then you must purchase a Firewire card separately then add it to the computer. Windows Movie Maker is all that's needed for the software.

This is most likely caused by a damaged or misaligned video drum and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Starts to record then stops
It is quite possible that the reel sensor is not detecting or the reel drive is not working in the drive. Look into the cover of the Dv and see when you record if the tape moves and the wind takes up the reel. If you are noticing that the reel is not turning then it is the mechanism of the reel drive ,if the reel moves but the count does not take up then you have the reel sensor faulty. In both the cases you will have to remove and check in the mechanism and it involves a very close careful work.hence I will not advice you to work by yourselt unless you are familiar. If not take help with my advice. Further the fault can also lead to many other sections, to the luse generator , to the mP or allied section. Tryt o rewing and see if the counter works if so check the rollers. Hope this advice guides you. Good day

HAVE YOU CLEANED YOUR HEADS LATELY? THIS HAPPENED TO ME, AND LOOKED AT VERY EXPENSIVE HEAD CLEANERS THAT I WAS TOLD WOULD ONLY WORK. I SPOKE TO A SALESMAN AT OUR LOCAL RADIO SHACK WHO SOLD ME ONE FOR $2.00. IT WORKED GREAT AND TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM.

Panasonic NV-DS65 won't eject a tape
It sounds that what's happened is your idler wheel is slipping or even your main drive belt.
When you loaded the tape it was taken by tape guides around the video drum. When you pressed eject the tape guides returned to their proper places but the tape stayedin a loop around the mechanism because the take up spool had no drive to pull the tape back into the cassette. When you've tried to pull the cassette out of the camera that loop of tape has snagged on part of the mechanism and that's what is stopping the cassette from being removed. I'm afraid the tape would be damaged at that spot so you may as well simply snip it with a pair of long bladed scissors and the cassette will pull straight out.
What is then required is either the drive belt changed or the idler wheel assembly changed. Either way a service center will be required unless yourself or a friend is able to buy the parts (not expensive) and do the work required.
Good luck

I want to capture video from DS65 to my laptop
Hi,
To transfer video from your camcorder to your computer you will need a firewire cable (IEEE 1394). Only with this cable you will be able to transfer video.
Please note that you will also need a firewire port on your computer. if you don't have one then you can buy a firewire PCI card from your local copmuter shop.
After you have installed your firewire port and connected your camera, you will need a video processing system. Windows Movie Maker is on Windows XP and it comes for free. Run it, and click on capture to begin the transfer of your video to your laptop.
Please see the following link for more info and pictures on firewire cables and ports.
