ViewSonic VA720 Screen displays briefly then goes blank.

it looks like the Inverter's gone in your screen, it works like a starter in a florescent tube, it 'kick starts' your screen to come on. Turning it on/off many times eventually 'kick starts' your screen and makes it come on eventually.

How do I fix 'out of range' problem when I connect monitor to my MacBook Pro

Check to make sure that closing the panel down does not cause the laptop to go into standby or suspend mode. In other words, are you sure that the video signals are not halted by the action of closing the panel down?

Black display

You say black display. Not sure what you mean. Either the monitor is working or it is not. If you see nothing on the monitor and the power light is yellow, then it is not getting a signal. If the power light is green and you see nothing, look really closely. You might even shine a flashlight at the monitor to see if there is actually a dim display. If so, the backlight has gone out and needs to be replaced.I'm assuming that you have tried to brighten the display with the monitor controls.

I picked up this monitor at a yard sale it says dc

If it says DC input and there are no other socket which has three prongs(this is for the AC input), all you need is an adapter, which you will plug to a wall socket and the other end would be plugged to the flat panel, it works like a transformer, just like any power supply, like for laptops, just try to find the correct voltage, 12v,16v or whatever is needed by the panel. Often you can find the voltage require on the panel itself, reading as POWER INPUT, xx volts or Power requirement.

Have a flat screen viewsonic

Higher current is OK and better than not having enough and it does not do any damage, voltage cannot be higher.
Just think of it like a AAA and AA batteries, both have the same voltage but AAA has less current capacity.
The power supply must be regulated 12vdc though, which will be switch power supply type and also observe the DC plug' polarity (center positive).

LCD monitor (viewsonic va720) "No signal"

You will need to disconnect the VGA cord that is connecting the monitor to the hard drive. Once you have that disconnected, try attaching another cord to determine if the cord is the issue. If you dont have another cord to test, then you will have to purchase another one from your local computer parts store and attach to determine if that is the issue you are having.

If the cord does not work, then you will have to take your monitor into a repair shop as there maybe an issue with the receiving port on the monitor.

I hope this was helpful and thanks for asking the experts.

I have a viewsonic 21 inches, the blue light comes

I usually replace or the caps in the DC side of the power supply (5v for the logic and the 12~18vdc for backlight inverter circuits).
If you hear squealing sounds then it can be that the inverter oscillator circuits may not be running at the correct frequency due to either bad tunning caps or bad inverter transformers. Please provide model number.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder jopints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

I have a viewsonic v1716w when turn on it works

The power supply caps will be the first thing to check, then also check for steady 5vdc and 12vdc.
The problem can also be in the T-CON board (part of the LCD panel).
