Missing dot in all colors

jay,

close to the facts:

never(!!!!) clean a brother printhead by soaking it into a solution what so ever it contains!

The printhead is a piezo one and totally diffrent from hp or canon bubblejet which heats the ink to print while the brother (and epson) ones have a bi-metal insides which "fires" ink onto paper when needed. The outward cleaning solution will destroy the bimetal and the electric inside the built-in-one printhead.

Do use only dye ink for brother printers. In fact there is a filter inside the printhead in front of the nozzels. pigmented ink has particles (which give the color to the "water" where dye ink is already "colored water" without partikles!) which definitley cloggs the filter and therefor the nozzels! The filter cant be cleaned because its part of the printhead.

The machine has a counter built in which counts the cleaning cycles of the machine. There are small clying cycles which the machine does by start printing (some 0.5 ml will be waisted) and the manual cleaning cycle started by user which needs a 3ml amount of ink.

The machine has a built in waistinktank like all inkjet printers have. The engineers of brother have set the counter to an amount of taking up cleaning ink that will last for 2.5 - 3 years in normal use (and using original ink!). When the waistinktank has taken up the max of ink the machine will display error:cleaning and refuses to print anymore. The tank has to be replaced and the error (error 46/error:cleaning) has to be deleted within the eeprom.

Some solutions:

Run the cleaning cycle twice with original brother ink carts placed in the printer.

If you are lucky the nozzels (or filter) will be trouble free again.

If you dont see any success the printhead (or partially the filter) is clogged and has to be replaced by a new one.

Do use only (empty) original ink carts with a refill dye ink. Mix it up (:-)) with a trace of printhead cleaning solution by 1:10 for the C/Y/M colors only. You can refill an amount of 11 ml (1 ml cleaning solution + 10 ml ink) into the C/Y/M ones and an ink-only of 20 ml into the bk one.

In case the waistinktank is filled up and error sign appears search the forum here for error 46 and buy a new waistinktank as a spare part from a service dealer.

Remove print head

There is no point in removeing a brother print head unless one is replacing it with new, not cleanable totally different print system to most brands. Head burns out heater elements, rather than blocks.

Yes remove every screw in top cover, all cables and post.

print head detached from rail by sliding to left end then back and up.

You are wasting your time trying to clean a brother type print head.

Brother MFC-210C Firmware Problem

I would try re-running the firmware installation if you haven't. Last time I had a firmware problem like this I left the machine unplugged for a hour or two came back and re-tried it and the machine took the upgrade fine the second time.

Cartridge empty

What we have here is a failure to communicate. The printer's ink sensors are dirty. Open your ink door, pull all your ink carts, look inside there. You'll see black "U"-shaped plastic pieces. Those are the sensors and they use an electro-magnetic field to sense the ink. Because your ink is magnetic as well and there is ink polluting your sensors.Anyway get a wet Q-TIP (moist) and maybe some pliars or hemostats and reach down in there and clean all around the inside of those sensors. Dry it up with a different Q-TIP. If possible put your machine into Maintenance Mode and do a reset. Otherwise unplug and reboot your Printer/Scanner/Copier. That should do it even if it takes a couple tries cleaning or rebooting

Machine Error 46 – Purged Ink Box Full MFC620CN/420CN/410CN/210C and FAX2440C

The machine counts all purge (cleaning) operations in order to prevent the internal ink absorber box from overflowing with purged ink. An “initial purge”, for example, advances the purge counter by 187 + 420 = 607. When the purge counter approaches 6400, an internal "Machine Error 46" is generated. Further purge operations are prohibited, and therefore the printer becomes unuseable.

When an internal Machine Error 46 is generated, the user will see an “Unable to Clean” external message and will be unable to use the printer. The “Unable to Clean” external message can relate to many different internal error codes however.

The user can establish the internal Machine Error Code as follows: pull the mains cable out of the machine (power off), hold down the Menu/Set key, re-insert the mains cable into the machine (power on). The internal Machine Error Code will be displayed.

If there is a Machine Error 46, it is necessary to dismantle the printer, replace the ink absorber box (or possibly break the ink absorber box open and clean its absorbent sponges under a tap), re-assemble the printer and reset the purge counter to zero.

Resetting purge counter MFC620CN/420CN/410CN/210C and FAX2440C

1) Enter machine maintenance mode (on MFC210C all four photo/copy/fax/scan lights flash in maintenance mode). Care is needed in maintenance mode, otherwise critical settings may be inadvertently corrupted.

FAX models with numerical keypads: Press the Menu/Set, *, 2, 8, 6 and 4 keys within two seconds. (if you fail to complete the correct key sequence within two seconds, press the Stop key to try again).

Other (non-FAX) models: Press the Menu/Set and Black Start keys. Next press the “up arrow” key four times to enter the maintenance mode).

2) Press the 8 then 0 keys in the initial stage of the maintenance mode to call up the machine's log information list (function code 80).

3) Press the Black Start key several times to scroll through the log information list to reach the purge counter. The purge counter is the 25th item in the list.

4) Press the 2, 7, 8, and 3 keys in this order to reset the purge count to zero.

5) Press the Stop/Exit key to return to the initial stage of the maintenance mode.

6) Press the 9 key twice to return to the standby state.

Carry on printing !!

Is this website for real?

Hello

Yes, this is a legit website. The thing is people learn by asking questions. Rather be a fool by asking a question than be a fool for the rest of your life.
