My all-in-one printer keeps telling me that I need to change the drum soon. I bought a new drum inserted it into the printer and now I can't print anything. Plus, it is still telling me that I need to "Change Drum Soon"....What do I do?
Why does the message "CHANGE DRUM SOON" continue to appear on the LCD display of my Brother machine, after I replaced the drum? Description: This message would continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replaced the drum. To reset the drum counter, follow the instructions listed below. Open the front cover. Press the Options key on the control panel. The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO". Press 1 to reset the drum count. Close the front cover.

it comes up with the self diagnostic msg. then restarts automatically. once reset - it says to check troubleshooting guide (which i dont have).

I am having a problem with the scanner. The error message says that I dont have an OCR program installed. I have word perfect installed on the PC with the Windows XP operationg system. What do I need to do to make the scanner work and allow me to scan documents into the PC and make changes to the document?
I find a free online ocr, it can recognize text from jpg, png, tiff, bmp and gif image.

hi there
i recently purchased a brother MFC7420 printer. The printer i connected directly to my PC and is set up perfectly as i can print, scan, fax etc etc. However, the minute i leave the printer idle for while it goes into sleep mode...then when i try and send another print job to it...it doesnt wake up....i have to turn it off and on to get it to come out of sleep mode. Have asked brother ..they said to upgrade the firmware....which i tried to do but it says i have the latest firmware...
please advise...

I'd be happy to give you the solution to this problem :)
You'll want to go into the menu and choose these options: 1,6, and 2. The final stop should give you the sleep menu.
The printer is setup for a default of 5 minutes. But you can change it from 00 to 99 minutes. To just shut it off, press the Options and Start button simultaneously and that will do the trick.

Open the front door where you put the toner/drum unit in the machine. Press options then press 1.
Close the door.
Counter reset!

lcd suddenly showing "Manual feed, insert paper". How do I change it back to automatic feed?

you probably had a document that was not using 8.5 x 11 paper or the print settings were the printer to use the manual tray.

I just changed the drum, but it is still telling me change drum soon. There must be a reset button some place. Is there?
there is a reset counter in the menu options.
at least there is, on my model of Brother, its a 8890DW, very similar to the one pictured.
from the 8890 user manual:
put the new drum unit and toner cartridge assembly in the machine. do not close the front cover.
Press Clear/Back
on the LCD display, it will say "Replace Drum? Yes/no"
to confirm you are installing a new drum, press 1.
when the LCD shows Accepted, close the front cover.

Message on Brother MFC 7340 is "Toner Life End.Replace Toner cartridge". Plenty of tone in cartridge. Inhfact, I just installed a compatible cartride unit which works fine on a Brother printer. The message: "Toner near end of life" had been a previous nuisance.

Do not
choose anything for drum replacement. when drum replacement menu comes
up, just press the * and then 00, then just press OK.
that should clear the error message, the printer has a toner life counter that needs to be reset.

what do you mean by "stack copies" in brother mfc-7420
Sorting copies using the ADF You can sort multiple copies. Pages will be stacked in the order (1, 2, 3), (1, 2, 3) and so on. 1 Press (Copy) to illuminate it in green. 2 Load your document. 3 Use the dial pad to enter the number of copies you want (up to 99). 4 Press Options and ? or ? to select Stack/Sort. Press Menu/Set. 5 Press ? or ? to select Sort. Press Menu/Set.
6 Press Start.
