I saw a similar problem with a vcr and it's menu years ago. It turned out to be the remote. If you can operate the unit without using the remote, try that to see if the problem happens again. If not, the remote is the issue. You don't say if there were any factors that could be traced directly to the remote (like the jump happened when you pointed the remote at the unit or pressed a button). You might also have a button that is stuck.
You'll have to do some experimenting to see if the remote is the cause, but it might be worth it. If the unit can't be operated without the remote, reboot it with the remote pointing away from it. Then turn the remote towards the unit. then try some of the functions. If it jumps to the suggestion screen, note which button you had just pressed and repeat the entire process. If a particular button always causes the issue, that's the culprit. You may want to just use the unit as you have been, rebooting as necessary, but pay attention to what happens right before the jump to the suggestion screen.

We have Directv and the dish is about 200 ft away
unfortunately there is no way to hook it up independently w/o connecting to the dish. the only other option you would have is to run an analog splitter but that would only allow you to watch the same program you are watching where the receiver is located.
Can't play back recordings
Pchaple,
We just discovered the same problem and we called Dish Network. After pushing to go deeper and try harder to solve the problem the customer service agent had us go to the system info screen. On that screen she asked the color of box "f", which was green, and that told her that the unit was defective. They are replacing the unit. I hope this helps. As for getting your recordings back, I think they are toast.
Our Dvr will only record on the channel we are
for the dual tuner, if you are unsure what this is... please look at the back of the satellite box and see if you have 2 sat in cables. if you do, then you need to reprogram your satellite. if you do not have 2 sat in cables then you would need to contact dtv to get this installed.
All of a sudden our DVR won't record a show that
what you will need to do to correct this problem is delete the series recording. in your list (push list button) highlight the program you wish to delete, push select go to "rec. series" press select. and delete ALL push select... get "ok" message, select again. and reset receiver on front panel of receiver there is a door you can open, hit the red reset button and then setup your series record again by going into the guide and pressing record twice. this will fix the problem by deleting ALL of the series record and resetting, and resetting up series record
Problem with playback on DVR - R15-500 receiver.
Check your signal strength on your second tuner. Dont forget to check all satellites and, if you use the signal meter instead of system test, a few odd and a few even transponders.
It sounds like it may be low.
I recently hooked up my dtv box, tuned the antenna
If there is a volume control on the remote that came with the converter box, use it to make sure the box volume is set to its maximum. Many models allow you to control the volume out from the box to the TV, and the levels are set about halfway. When you turn up the volume on the TV cause it's too low, you can get the kind of audio problem you describe. Make sure you turn the volume down on the TV first before starting with the box.
Can't watch anyother shows while recording another
Check the back of the DVR to make sure BOTH cables from the dish are properly connected to the receiver. Make sure they are properly tightened. It sounds like one of them has come loose, because if the receiver only has one working cable coming in from the dish it can only do one thing at once- you can only record one show at a time with one cable. You can also go into the receiver's setup menu and run a system test, which will help you diagnose the issue.
