Ceiling fan has no remote,
Home Depot/Lowe's etc have a remote kit specific to ceiling fans. your universal remote may not be compatible with your specific type of remote sensor that is up in the base of your ceiling fan. Check a user's manual to see the specifications of your specific Model # of fan to see what requirements they set for it. You would probably be better off just getting a new kit for an average $12 to get it working again.
Wish you luck.

To reverse the direction of the fan. You need to go to the fan between the blades and the light you will see a switch that slides up and down or left and right. It is not a pull chain. If you move the switch the opisit direction it will reverse the direction of the blades. If you do not have the switch on the fan then there is one on the remote that says reverse. If you do not have that then you can not reverse the direction of the fan.
Good Luck If you can not find please ask more so I can help you more.

How do I find instructions
Hello,
unfortunately, there is no site whatsoever that has instructions on how to replace the receiver on Windward II ceiling fan.
You can replace the receiver yourself by bringing the ceiling fan down, remove the light cover and the screws on the canopy in order to gain access to the receiver.
The receiver should be mounted in the motor or in the upper mounting bracket of the ceiling fan. You can also easily locate the receiver by getting the position of the remote sensor.
Bring the fan down, dismantle it and you should be able to replace the receiver with little or no directions.
Good luck.
