Tomtom ONE GPS Receiver - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Tomtom one will not start up
Most likely cause: Blown components on power board. Very common problem , usually caused by a faulty cigarette lighter lead or a voltage spike from car electrics , OR plugging in the wrong charger ( car phone chargers are at much higher voltage )BUT , sometimes the processor locks up and results in similar sympTOMs ( excuse that pun ) . Therefore , try resetting the tomtom by inserting a paper clip or similar thin wire into the very tiny hole underneath ( marked reset ). One quick press is enough and you should feel it click as its a tactile switch ( inside the hole ). Ignore any other suggestions that you need to hold the switch in or press it for 'x' seconds as they are wrong. A quick press is all thats needed. Then try turning your tomtom on in the normal way. GOOD LUCK.
How can I locate my lost/stolen tomtom?
First of all it is obivous that a tomtom has a unique satellite address to recieve information, or they really wouldn't work, right? Any search from anyones tomtom would change your destination, which is defintly not the case. A unique satallite address means the address could defintly be cloned and monitored for activity. Just as they do with computers and modems. I mean they were able to catch BTK, a serial killer, by tracing a floppy disk all the way back to the exact computer he used to make it for christ sake. Tomtom probable doesn't want you to really think about the possibilaties of tracking your GPS, as this would probably be a violation of our privacy and probably our rights. I really think they can, but why they want to waste their time with the thousands of calls everyday. They should get their heads out of their azz and make some goddam money. It is a freaking Global Positioning Satallite reciever, and it would be the stupidest thing that I've ever heard that Tomtom can't find the location of it, come on. It seems they prey off our ignorance and only care about making money.
No GPS signal?
I had this problem (waiting for a valid GPS signal). I did a factory reset and the unit started working
again (yes, I lost all my settings, but what good is a GPS unit that
just sits there waiting for a valid GPS signal?). To do a factory
reset, go to menu -> change preferences -> Reset factory
settings.
How do I change the volume on my unit?, I do not
You can change the volume of the spoken instructions by using '
Volume preferences'
, with its sliding scale to set the required volume in increments of 5%. The '
Test' function is a good way to get the volume right before starting your journey.
You may also find it helpful to use '
Link volume to speed', so that the spoken instructions get louder as road noise increases and are at their quietest when you are stationary.
