Amazing what reading through the support page at TOMTOM reveals... I have the XL so no SD card to remove, but the support page explains that a hard reset by holding the power button takes 15 SECONDS. That's actually a really long time if you watch a clock. I pressed it and waited it out, and it worked. Powered right up. Not sure if I lost all my favorites and stuff but I have them backed up using TomTom Home anyway....
From the main menu, select the wrench icon. If the waving flags icon is available, select it. If it's not available, select the two windows with five red dots then the waving flags. If you need a manual, you may download one here.
From the description of your problem, it looks like the internal battery is done for good. If you could change the battery, your unit will work normally. However, It is extremely difficult to open the unit. www.newpower99.com has some videos sparesand tools to accomplish this. Good luck.
This means it is not reading the SD card and that it needs to be re-formatted.
This is best done in a card reader and not the tomtom itself. Right click on it and select format select FAT32 as the files system
Now connect the tomtom but don't let tomtom home run. exit TTH if need be. You now need to select your tom tom which will also show as a drive.
In windows explorer select tools then folder options. Click view and tick the box for "show hidden files and folders" It may warn you but you can ignore it.
Then just copy ALL the files from the tom tom to your SD card
DO NOT USE CUT AND PASTE !
Once all the files are on switch off the tom tom and insert the SD card
If you want to play mp3 songs from sd card then create mp3 folder and place all the songs in side that folder. Now when you go to Juke box menu it will scan all the songs and you will be able to play them the way you want..
You could probably just manually delete the Canada/USA maps from the device, and copy over the europe (or whichever ones you need) to the device.
Just plug it in, and view the memory like a normal usb drive..delete the old, copy over the new.
Don't forget to use tomtom home to backup your gps device to your computer first (thus saving your canada maps for later..)
Afterwards, you would probably have to go into your preferences and choose the europe maps.
Good luck!
