How did you get on with it ?

If you have an SD card in try removing that before you power up.
You may also want to try the hard reset.
Paper clip in the tiny hole by the card slot.
Push it in firmly whilst the unit is powered up (not too hard) for about 3 seconds then release
You may have to power down and then up again and even hold down the power button a little longer the first time you do this

To DISABLE the function you should be stationary

1. tap the screen
2. tap "Change preferences"
3. tap "Safety preferences"
4. untick the "hide most menu options while driving" by tapping the tick.
5. Tap "Done"

This means it is not reading the SD card and that it needs to be re-formatted.

This is best done in a card reader and not the tomtom itself.
Right click on it and select format select FAT32 as the files system

Now connect the tomtom but don't let tomtom home run. exit TTH (TOMTOM HOME) if need be.

You now ned to select your tom tom which will also show as a drive.

In windows explorer select tools then folder options. Click view and tick the box for "show hidden files and folders"
It may warn you but you can ignore it.

Then just copy ALL the files from the tom tom to your sd card

DO NOT USE CUT AND PASTE !

Once all the files are on switch off the tom tom and insert the sd card

It should now work

Do this whilst it is disconnect from a PC

Whilst it shows a map display touch the screen once.


Select the icon that looks like a spanner / wrench

Use the rght arrow on the display until you see a bunch of flags. (if you shoot past it just keep going until it comes ound again)

Touch that and select the correct the correct flag / language

Hello,The GPS will work in New Zealand but will need to have mapping of New Zealand before it will show any details.

Connect the unit to the PC, in "My Computer" (if PC) look for your TomTom, format it, and download TomTom Home. There will be some message, that the program needs to download some data to restore your unit, accept it. Contact me directly if there will be any questions: [email protected]

If this doesn't work, you can reset your device. To do this, press and hold the Power button for fifteen seconds. Release the Power button when device begins to restart.

You can buy a Tomtom main charger but they are fairly expensive.

You can use a Main powered USB charger along with your normal PC Tomtom USB cable: it should ideally be rated at 1 Amp or more.

You might even have a suitable main USB charger on hand now as they often come with generic MP3/MP4 players and some mobile phones: I use my Huawei U8150 or E585 modem charger for that purpose myself!

If you search for "TomTom turns itself on", you will find that there appears to be a problem which TomTom will not acknowledge. Mine always turns itself back on exactly (to the minute) one week after being switched off and runs the battery down. Tomtom have got me to reformat and had it back for repair but the problem remains

You entered the address as a destination? Tap Navigate to and select Recent destinations. Select that address and tap details. It will give you the choice to show demo. Select the maximum demo speed and (virtually) navigate to that place.
