We have a Maxent MX-42X3, it has flickering

This problem is caused by a faulty powersupply/standby board. I have seen this happen way too often on plasmas for the power supply is the most hard working part in a plasma. A component level repair might be possible but it depends on your prior experience in electronics. If you have never worked on a tv before I strongly suggest that you seek professional assistance to get it fixed as it holds dangerous amounts of voltages for several days after its turned off and unplugged from the power supply. As my guru always says "Your life and limb is worth much more than this". You can use our repair directory to search for techs in your area.

Maxent MX42X3 42" plasma Monitor..

Are you sure that its the main A/Vboard coz it sounds like the main power supply issue to me. Anyways the mainboard is the large board usually located at the center of the tv. If you can remove the back cover of the tv and get me a high res picture of the tv I can mark the board for you.

I have a Maxent 42 inch plasma. When you turn it

What is the Product Name or Model number of your Maxent 42" Plasma TV? If it is a MX-42X3, Model # P420542HM8, I think I can help you. I have encountered this exact same problem with 2 Maxent MX-42X3 Plasma TV's. I found that C766, a 220uF, 16V surface-mount electrolytic capacitor on the main board is bad. This capacitor is located just to the left of the green multi-fin processor heat sink. This capacitor will test good using capacitor meter or an ESR meter, but if you spray it with Freeze-It with the power on, you will find out that this is the problem! To get it out, I found I had to remove the little 10uF 16V surface-mount capacitor just to the left of it. I then replaced these 2 capacitors with regular (radial), high-temperature, low-ESR capacitors. I cut the leads short, and bent the ends out just a little bit so you can solder them back onto the surface-mount pads. You can get these parts from Digi-Key Corp. I used Digi-Key part # P12383-ND ($0.32) for the 220uF capacitor, and P11212-ND ($0.30) for the 10uF capacitor. Both of these capacitors are rated for 25V and high temperature, so they won't go bad again. You can purchase surface mount capacitors there too, but I find them very difficult to solder back into those locations due to the tight placement of other capacitors in that area. If you're not an expert in soldering, I suggest you take the main board to a qualified electronic technician, and let him do it. But you better put the board in an anti-static bag before you take it anywhere! Hope this helps!

Maxent 60 in lcd tv flickers

I had the same problem with my 50 inch Maxent, found a solution on the internet that seemed too good to be true, but I replaced a part that cost me $1.38 at Radio Shack and my tv is as good as new. Go to this link for details and even includes pictures. All you need is a scredriver (to remove back cover) and a soldering iron - repair is actually very easy. Good Luck!http://www.avsforum.com/t/595430/maxent-50-plasma-mx-50x3-official-thread-do-not-post-prices/2130

I have maxent mx42vm11 model

A loud pop means that a part inside the tv effectively exploded. Only 3 types of components can explode with an audible pop: the screen, a transformer or an capacitor.
When a transformer explodes it effectively gets shorted so a tv would simply die instantly. Since in your case the tv still works (even if barely) it means that it's either a capacitor or the screen.
If it's a capacitor then you will have to open the tv, look for it and replace it - a new one is less than $3. Some soldering experience will be required and the procedure can be learned from this easy tutorial
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCSNWi3UHf4
If you can't find any damaged capacitor in any board and the voltages delivered by the power source are normal (or near of) then it's the screen - the tv is effectively dead, it can't be fixed.

I have a Maxent MX42X3 that sound comes on ,but

Hi Dennis,
This kind of symptoms indicated of fault either on the power supply board or in the y-sustain board. Check for dried/leaky electrolytic capacitor in that board.
Leaky electrolytic capacitor has a physical indication of fault like dome/bulged at the top and can be easily identify. Look at the sample picture below.

jdvillanueva_77.jpg

Dried electrolytic capacitor has no physical indication of fault. You must have a capacitor checker to determine its condition and pinpoint the faulty one.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to isolate the problem.

Also, check if your unit is still under warranty/extended warranty period, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free. Opening the back cover will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have sound but no video

If you have zero indication on your screen, the high voltage power supply has likely failed. If there is any sign of life on the screen (a glow for example), it may be a much more expensive main board problem.

No power at all to TV. Outlet is good.

Hi rwnoyes,

Here are some basic steps that may help you fixing the problem. You should prepare tools and multimeter.

I'm assuming that your unit is dead set without an standby LED light.1.Power cord - check the cord it might be opened (no continuity). This is due to frequent bending, pulling. 2. Power switch - check for dry joints, open contact. 3.Check the internal fuse- sometimes the fuse fail because of the power surge, replacing with new one will cure the problem, If this is the case I've advice you to use surge protector/AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). However if the fuse blew again this is an indication that you have a shorted parts on the power supply, you may visit the linkhttp://www.fixya.com/support/r8053361-fuse_keeps_blowing for more info. If no reaction and still the unit didn't power up then you have an open parts on the power supply.

4.If you see that the fuse is intact on the board, don't attempt to touch anything because there somefatal components (Electrolytic capacitors) stored electricity enough to hurt you with a simple mistake only.

The next steps should be done by an expert or qualified technician because isolating the problem on the power supply is technical and complicated.

Also check if your unit is under warranty before opening the back panel, it will void the warranty. Avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free or a little charge only.

Hope it may help you.

Thanks for using fixya.
