Denon AVR-4802 Receiver Questions & Answers
Problem with the Denon AVR-4802
you need to find a headphones, put a drop of contact cleaner on headphone plug and plug it into receiver's h/p input several times. It cleanes internal h/p connector contacts and unit will work fine. If doen't help the receiver most likely has bad h/p connector soldering.
My denon 4802 had started
Disconnect the speakers a nd see if it's capable of staying up. If so, look for an external short. Otherwise, it needs a hands-on tech.
I'm buying a 1080p blue
Hi - If you mean can you run/switch a 1080P video source through the receiver, then the answer is no.
It can only switch through the video component connectors on the receiver (1080i) but it's not a problem you can just connect your new BR player directly into the TV (HDMI) and have the audio handled by the receiver. It's a common setup and you're not really losing anything. It's the setup I have.
Enjoy your new great BR experience!!

I have two devices that I want to hook up to coax
Swap one end of the cables for the devices between #1 and 2 to see if it's the device or the cables. Proceed to isolate the problem further from the results.
Optical cables are finicky and must be clicked in while also making sure there are no small-radius bends anywhere in the cables.
Can not set-up surround speakers
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, have you tried a full / hard RESET of the Denon AVR-4802? Doing so would allow you to start clean/fresh reverting to factory defaults and remove any glitches, errors in settings, configuration including memories, presets and user preferences. If have not been tried:
- switch OFF the AVR-4802 and unplug from the wall outlet;
- press and hold the DIRECT buttons and stereo button;
- without releasing the buttons, plug the unit back into the wall outlet;
- release the buttons only when the display is blinking.
Offhand, should the above be not corrective, then it would be a hardware fault on the power outputs of the amp designated for the surround. Options then are:
- consider a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair if and only if very familiar with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM, a soldering iron/station and safe working practices with electrically powered devices. Access to a Service Manual or at the very least, a schematic diagram would be a necessity;
- should you be uncomfortable with a DIY, perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of an authorized Hitachi Service Center or a qualified professional.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa. Happy Holidays.
