Akai PT4799HD Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
Cleaning the screen
The screen is made of plastic. It should be cleaned only with water and a damp cloth. The mirror inside the set however may be cleaned with glass cleaner, carefully as not to drip any on the boards as it will corrode connections. And the internal lenses themselves are made of various materials and typically clean well with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
What is the price range?
I'm afraid nobody can decide that, but you. I'd suggest looking up your model on ebay and/or amazon and see what those are listed for. Price yours accordingly.
"check factor data" using self focus
Hi.
Not at all familiar with your tv but this sort of message comes up if you have altered eeprom settings while in engineers mode.
To put it right you will need the work shop manual to know how to reset the settings.
Maybe A tech on these forums can help you out.

Chris..
Where can i get the manuel for my akai television ctd1390
That is going to likely be hard---Akai has sites in Europe but I have looked in North America etc and they have none---at one time they were owned or part of Samsung but that seems to be a dead end also.Best chance is Google the model number with "manual" after it to see what you can find.Key with Google it the search word used which is what this site uses to attract people to ask here.
I hope you can help me when trying to turn on my TV the red power light flashes 5 times and then goes off.
5 blinks in this model is a short on the 140 volt line coming out of the main power supply.Likely causes are Horizontal Output Transistor or something around it is shorted. It would require someone with a schematic and a meter to at least test for a short in that area to ground. This model does have everything inside in a "light box" which is removable and the set can be operated with the remote with the box removed.Unless you have the meter/schematic this may not be a do it yourself repair. This model was prone to a capacitor in the same area failing and sometimes it takes the output transistor with it.Kind of like testing for a problem in a car where something is draining the battery---some basic tests have to be performed and things tested.Let me know if you are able and if you have ANY questions.
I was waching tv when
This is a bad IC more than likely and it is a common problem of CRT Rear Projection television sets and the older they get the more common the problem becomes. I'm assuming that it looks something like this: Obviously not all sets are the same so your mileage may vary on exactly what it looks like but this the result of of the IC going bad and since you'll have to have this repaired professionally and that's going to st you back at least $800. RP CRT's (and CRT's in general) are unfortunately archaic technology and repair shops don't do a whole lot of work with it anymore and they don't keep a whole lot of trained staff around to fix it. Also, again, this is an 7 year old RP CRT and this won't be the last thing to go bad on it. Considering the age of the television and the cost to repair, it is far more cost effective to purchase a nice new Full 1080p HDTV. For the cost of fixing this set, you can get a Mitsubishi 60" DLP 1080p HDTV that's 3D ready, even. In 2009 my Panasonic RP HDTV from 2004 had the exact same issue and this is exactly what I did (got the 65"). Of course, the price of LCD's and Plasmas have gone down dramatically as well so that may be an option for you as well. Do some internet searches. TigerDirect is good, NewEgg is as well and keep an eye out for online retailers who offer free shipping. Go to Reseller Ratings and sign up for their newsletter where they'll provide with links for the hottest deals of the day from all around the web and most often they include free shipping. Good luck! I hope this answers your question.
Picture seem to be in three d
Thats caused by the convergence ICs and associated 3.9 ohm resistors. Often replaceing them will correct the issue. If not you may need to replace the convergence board. You can get the parts and complete boards from
