White line on left side of screen
its a internal cicuit getting overheated and the component isd getting faulty on the board.needs to be checked with meter and get it repaired.
Screen went out
I had the same problem, but I had no sound at all. The power indicator light was flashing green. I tried to unplug the unit and plug it back in, but the light then was red briefly, turned orange then flashing green. What I did to solve the problem was to unplug the set and leave it for a few minutes then plug it back in and hit the front power switch at the same time. Voila! It started working again. Good luck solving this.

Power Supply Card Replacement
Remove the back cover.
The switch mode power supply board is in the middle at the top. It's a large board.
Along the top edge of the board the model number will be printed. It should be a bn96 00249a but check to be sure before ordering one.
Take special note of the 5 fan headers located on the lower left of the board - all unused.
Explains why so many of them have failed.
Mine has been dead for almost a year now.
I know which part on the board is bad, but so far, have not been able to locate a place that will sell me the IC.
I'm not paying $300.00 for the whole board when all it needs is a $15.00 IC.
White line on left side of screen
it is broken screen, if you have garanty (Warranty) call to service or shop. If you have no garanty call to service, but screen costs to much.
Widescreen tv=widescreen movie still have black on top & bottom
Sorry, you didn't provide enougb information for anyone to accurately answer your question. The most important thing you omiited was the nature of your video source. If anyone does answer this, I assure you it will be a wild guess. Here's my wild guess:
Your HDTV has a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. For every 16 units of width, there are 9 units of height. That ratio matches the exact ratio used in widescreen television broadcasting. However, most feature films (movies) on DVD have an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 or even wider than that. These films will display with horizontal black bars at the top and the bottom, so that you can see the full image. Unless you choose to use one of your TV or your DVD player's options to zoom or crop the image, the bars are 'correct' and there's nothing wrong.
Another possibility is that you have not configured your video source, such as a DVD player, to 'know' that you have a widescreen TV. Nearly all DVD players ship configured to output using a NON-widescreen aspect ratio, so you must adjust this setting using your player's setup menu. The same is true for most cable boxes and satellite receivers.
Finally, just because your TV is widescreen, the video source itself may not be. Most standard-definition broadcasts are NOT widescreen, for example.
If you re-post your question with adequate information about which video source exhibits this problem, I'm sure you will get much more specific and helpful answers.
Blank screen
I repaired mine. It had the same problem. Could be power supply. If you open it then maybe I can help.
Modle #lc002 42 inch plasma wont turn on
Remove and restore the power. Pull the power plug for several minutes then plug back in and try again. Also make sure that the vents are clean and that the unit isn't overheating.
Shaky/Unstable Picture
This is power supply issue, one or more of your filter capacitors either bursted and/Or over heats (this is why it becomes better when system cools down after turning it off for 1/2 hour..You have two choices.1. buy a replacement power supply may set you back a couple hundred dollars but it will be plug and play. 2nd you can replace these filter capacitors make sure the can handle 105 deg celsius not the 85 deg. celsius, if you know how to trace the bad ones and desolder and solder new ones on the power supply board, or hire a techinician to replace them for you. Good Luck...
Programing a universal ( comcast ) remote to work with AKAI
look in your guide and check the programming procedure for finding an unknown code. it's usually turn the tv on and go into a search mode on the remote and start hiting a button till the tv goes off and then you have just found the code. good luck.
Akai plasma tv is making snapping noises
Since these do employ high voltages, you might be hearing an arc-over due to the accumulation of household airborne contaminents or moisture gathering in a dust buildup.
I suggest you pull the plug for at least a few hours to allow stored voltages to dissipate, remove the back cover of the set and with a clean paintbrush and a vacuum held close to it, remove any visible dust deposits.
Button it up and see if the problem has lessened.
Buzzing Noise
It really sounds like your power supply is having problems with heat and not enough cooling inside your tv. You should if you can take the back cover off, also, and blow out all the lint and dust that has been drawn into the tv over time. Usually a couple of years is enough to build up dust and lint that can cause tiny static discharges inside your set. If there is a way of keeping your set cooler by placing it in a different position where there is sufficient room for air to circulate without restriction around it, that would help as well. The power supply the one with the power cord going to it from the inside should be your culprit. Good luck and God bless.
External speaker hook-up
Ok, after A LOT of internet research I could not find any solution. So I decided to do a "chop suey" connection.
Went to Radio Shack and bought ...
Insulated Grip 2-1/4"Alligator Clips w/screw terminals 10 (five red & five black)
(A smaller alligator clip can be used if you have a soldering iron to connect the wires.)
30-Ft. 18-Gauge Clear 2-Conductor Speaker Wire
It cost about $15 for everything. Be sure to have electrical tape as well.
Stripped speaker wires to fit through each alligator clip and twisted it around the screw terminals of clip. Tapped screw terminal to cover wiring. Do this for 2 black and 2 red clips.
To install l laid the TV on its back and insterted each alligator clip to firmly fit on each terminal. Because the clips are large it will be a tight next to each other. Be sure to test one line and speaker first before completed the second line and speaker.
GOOD LUCK!
I have a 50" Magnavox
You probably have a different issue that is not related to the software update. Just as an FYI, software updates on TV's should never be done unless they are to fix a specific issue that you are having with your TV. Unlike software updates on a computer. you cannot roll back to a previous version.
