First of all, don't pre-rinse the dishes. Check the water temperature, it should be between 120 and 140 degrees. Be sure you are not partially blocking the dispenser door so that it isn't opening.

I would try Searspartsdirect.com or E-Replacementparts.com it could be the latch is getting hung up if it's a front loader

i would assume be n/o. if have VOM put on OHMS setting. touch ur leads together listen for tone. once verified it works. put on the terminals on switch. and manully switch it, to see if makes or breaks the contact
