Is there any power light? Can you hear if the hard disk is moving?
Try to change your USB cable to connect to your computer.
I need a manual and drivers (I think) and some
there is no manual for this drive and no drivers are required. if not recognized by your o/s check to see if you have the correct adaptor with a green light on the bottom of it. i have 2 of these drives and last week one couldn`t be found, i tried switching usb ports, then tied it on my laptop under vista which used to work, then did a system recovery in cas of corrupted usb drivers or registry. the drive still wouldn`t appear. when i plugged it in i would hear a beep, but somtimes the computer would find it and show it in the devices list, but it showed as a usb mass storage device, but no hdd.
i assumed both adapters for the 2 drives from maxto would be the same, however the drive that works is 12 volts 3 amp. the drive the can`t be recognized is 12 volts 2.5 amps. the green light is on solid and the front drive lights blinking, but i figured nothing to lose so i swapped out the adapters, and voila! my dead drive works like a charm with th 12 volt 3 amp adapter. with the old adapter 12 volts 2.5 amps it sounded licke a clock ticking. now its super quiet. to be sure of any drive damage i moved all the filef to my main drive and formatted it with " full" format. now i have to swap the adapter back to the other drive and pull of the data and reformat it. and buy a new adapter for the other drive @12 volts 3 amps. hope this helps not too confusing.
I am having a maxtor
If you are just using it as an external drive, Fedora should see the drive automatically, no driver should be necessary. If it can not, there is probably a different issue.
You may need to format the drive if order to mount it.
If it is already formatted as NTFS, it will be read-only to Linux. If formatted at FAT32, Linux should be able to read-write it as well as Windows.
fdisk -l: to get info on all disks (formatted or not) connected to the box. You should be able to figure out which disk is which.
If you will be using this disk exclusively with Linux, you will probably want to consider formatting it with a native Linux file-system.

Please try connecting it to another computer. That way we'll know if the problem is with the computer or with the actual device itself ;) Let us know what happens or doesn't happen :(
Malware caused my C:\ drive a need to be formatted
> I do not want to screw anything up.
First, purchase a new internal disk-drive (newer? faster? bigger?) and set aside your current disk-drive, rather than "overwriting" any of the files on the current disk-drive when reinstalling Windows.
Second, reinstall Windows.
Third, reinstall the Maxtor software that you used to do the "backup".
Fourth, connect the OneTouch, and use that Maxtor software to "restore" the files.
Since your "original" disk-drive is not connected to your computer, it is IMPOSSIBLE to "screw-up" disasterously.
I would like to clean, erase the contenue of my
If you are operating in Windows. click "START" and then "COMPUTER" or "MY COMPUTER". a screen will appear with all fixed and portable drives hooked up. Find the Maxtor hard drive and RIGHT CLICK it. In the drop down menu choose "format". this will erase EVERYTHING on it so make sure you have saved anything you want to keep in another place.
MY MAXTOR ONE TOUCH 3 EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE WILL NOT
Hi,
Beeping is a diagnostic code coming from the drive. Like a flashing check engine light it tells you there's a problem. If the data on the drive is just a backup and you still have the original files simply replace the drive, either buy one or submit a warranty claim to www.seagate.com as they now own maxtor.
If it's off warranty or has unique files on it you need, your cheapest solution is to take the drive to a Computer store and ask the technicians to remove the drive from the enclosure and test it in a new enclosure. If it works in the new enclosure, buy the enclosure and you're on the way. If it fails to function in the new enclosure it will need the help of a professional data recovery facility. If that is the case have the technicians at the store put the hard drive in a static free bag and respond letting me know your location(Country, State, City). I will recommend a facility near you, it's important you don't proceed with "in-house" recovery at a regular repair shop as they simply aren't equipped to handle data recoveries beyond the above simple technique.
Hope this helps FixYa,
Chris

My computer cannot dectect my maxtor one touch III
well, 2 options, your hard drive is not working in that case, just get a internal hard drive which is serial and open the case for the maxtor and plug the drive inside the case. its cheaper to buy the inter hard drive, then to replace the external hard drive.
