First, check to see that the temperature sensing element, located behind air filter, is not touching a cold coil. If it is, straighten the element away from the coil. Secondly, try resetting to a lower temperature. Lastly, the compressor may have shut-off by changing modes. Wait approximately 3 minutes and listen for compressor to restart when set in the COOL mode. Hello Connie - Thank you for your post! The filter is recommended to be clean after 250 hours of operation and when the FILTER RESET light illuminate. Some air conditioner filters can be removed by sliding out from the right-hand side. Others, you need to push the vent handle to the Vent Closed position and open the front panel. Grasp the filter by center and pull up and out the filter can be wash using liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Rinse filter thoroughly. Gently shake excess water from the filter. Be sure filter is thoroughly dry before replacing. Keep in mind that instead of washing you may vacuum the filter clean as well. Once the filter has been cleaned, to extinguish the light simply press the FILTER button and the unit should resume to normal operations. However, if you are referring to a filter replacement part, most parts can be purchased directly from the manufacturer or through a parts distributor in your area (part numbers may vary based on distributor). If youre anything like me, you have a mechanical inclination and the desire is bad enough to fix this problemn yet unable to buy another... The way i fixed this infernal beeping & the sleep light cycling on & off everytime is as followsDisconnect Power...Pull the filter cover & filter off....Locate the 2 screws that hide behind the filter that hold the front panel on & remove them..You should then just have clips on the sides that you can easily pop it out of...You will find that a cluster of wires housed by a black shield runs to the control panel in the part u just removed..There should be 3 screws to remove in order to open the compartment that houses the control board....Remove the screws holding the control board in and remove control board...On that board you will see there are buttons and one of them will say sleep....YOURE ALMOST ON YOUR WAY TO QUIET NIGHTS AGAIN.....VERY CAREFULLY pop the top of that button housing off ( I used a utility knife ) BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL NOT TO TEAR ENTIRE BUTTON OFF OF THE BOARD....once the button top is off you will see a small circular piece of metal that is pushed down when the button is pressed...KNOCK THAT PIECE OF METAL OUT AND VOILA THE BEEPING WILL NOW STOP BECAUSE IT HAS NOTHING TO HIT THE CONTACTS IN ORDER TO FORM THE CIRCUIT.... Tip it outward so the concensate will tend to overflow outside. Be careful you dont drop it.

Typically, window AC will collect the water in a tray to help cool the bottom ocondenser and rely oin evaporation to get rid of the water. Sometimes, during high humidity, it doesn't evaporate quickly enough and will spill out of the pan.

You could drill a hole in the pan outside ... whicl will drain the water ... but reduce the efficciency.

I would let the managment know about the mold problem, this can be serious. If you want to clean this yourself, use rubber gloves, a brush, and buy a spray bottle of mold remover. The filter should be located behind the front grill. It should snap loose, and they are normally made of a foam material that you can wash in your sink and let dry. Sometimes they remove them a throw them out!! If this is the case, let them no about that also.Please keep me posted.

A few basic principles for air conditioner troubleshooting. For both central home air conditioner or window air conditioner, the first thing to check is whether the unit is getting proper power. If the unit uses 220 volt power be sure that the proper voltage is getting to the unit. Same for 110 volt units. A voltage meter can be used to assure that the voltage is correct.

For window air conditioning units the voltage can also be checked before and after the thermostat. If voltage is being supplied to the thermostat but not from it then the thermostat probably needs replaced. This is a fairly common problem. Another place to check is the fan motor voltage. The fan on window air conditioners runs both the indoor blower and the condenser fan. If that motor fails than the compressor may run for a short time, but will overheat and shut off. Continued operation like this will result in compressor failure. This motor can be economically replaced for larger window air conditioners, but for smaller ones the cost of replacement will be more than a new unit.

Central air conditioners for the home are more complex and there are more things that can go wrong. As with the window air conditioner the thermostat can also be a problem. The central air conditioner thermostat will only have 24 volts going to it. So don't look for high voltage there. Some units the voltage will be coming from the outdoor unit and others the voltage will be supplied by the indoor air handler or furnace. Most home central air conditioning will be supplied by the indoor air handler or the furnace. If the air conditioner is for cooling only the unit will usually have only two wires going to the condenser unit. Make sure that you have 24 volts across those wires.

The next thing to check will be the indoor blower. If your thermostat is calling for cooling then the indoor blower should be running. If there is no air moving across the indoor cooling coil then you will soon have a big block of ice formed on the coil. This can happen for a few reasons. The indoor blower is not working, the air flow is restricted and not allowing air to move across the coil. A clogged air filter would also do this. Or the outdoor condenser unit has lost the charge of refrigerant.

Finally and worst of all is when you have a complete compressor failure. Often when this happens the compressor will "lock up" or not be able to turn when power is supplied to it. Overheating or lack of lubrication are usually the main causes of compressor failure. Overheating can be caused by the outdoor coil around the compressor getting clogged with dirt, leaves, or grass. Loss of the refrigerant charge will also cause the compressor to overheat. It is the cool return gas coming back to the compressor that helps to keep it from overheating.

As you can see there are many things that can go wrong with an air conditioner and I have not come close to exhausting the possibilities here. I have just touched on the most common problems in a very basic way.
There are some basic trouble shooting things that can be done very easily. Most problems are above out of the range of comfort for many homeowners and professional help should be consulted before any attempt is made at repairs. Remember also, that the release of refrigerant gases into the atmosphere is a federal offense in the US. Proper care must always be taken to minimize the release of any gases. A license is also required to handle refrigerants. Make sure that the professional you call has the proper certifications to handle refrigerants properly.

With the outside air quality you described, you'll have to clean the filter a lot more frequently. Maybe a total filter replacement would be better than cleaning in your case.

Let me ask first, do you hear the compressor kicking on when you turn it on?
Check the thermostat and see if it is set lower than the room temperature. Try setting it at least 10 degrees lower than your house. Listen for the compressor to kick in. If it does, close up the room and give it at least 20 minutes, then go in and see if it feels any cooler.
Do you have a programmable thermostat? If you do, change the batteries and see if that helps.

Don't just let someone put freon in your A/C when you don't know what's wrong with it. The added pressure, if it doesn't need it, can blow the unit for good.
