This sounds like an Microsoft Excel issue. The Windows printer driver controls how printing is done regardless of your printer settings. The option of serial printing is not available in t 2240 printer . One thing you can do is to use serial to parallel converter through your PC/LAPTOP to printer. The first thing you need to do is to check the paper size selected in the application you are printing. If you are printing from a Windows based application you WILL find that the paper size selected in the application you are printing from is set to A4.On the printer you can set the paper size in the following way;

1. Power the printer ON holding down the SETUP button to unlock the menu, release SETUP when the printer finishes initializing
2. Put the printer OFFLINE press SETUP
3. Press the button under MENU
4. Press the button under NEXT until you see FORMLEN (if you do not see FORMLEN select the PAPER option it may be a sub menu for PAPER)
5. Press the button under TRACTOR 1
6. Press the button under LINES
7. Use button 2 to reduce the number of lined to 18 (3 inch x 6 lines per inch)
8. Press the button under SET to save the setting

I am assuming the form length is 3 inches, if it is 1.25 inches this may be outside the specification for the printer and you may not be able to select this it is also not dividable by 6 lines per inch

The "Tractor 1 Tear" message is not a error as such, this is an information message showing the printer is set to the front tractor feed (tractor 1) if you press the button directly under "Tear" the printer should move the paper to the tear possition.

If the pritner is not printing I would recomend checking the following;

1. Ensure the printer is set to "ONLINE" press the button you should see ONLINE TRACTOR 1 TEAR on the display
2. Ensure the printer is loaded with paper, press the button under "Tear" the printer should move the paper forward if it is loaded into Tractor 1.
3. If you are not using Tractor 1, ensure you select the paper path you are using within the menu and move the paper selection lever.
4. Observer the LCD display for any errors that may be seen when print jobs are sent.
5. Try printing a menu print on the printer this will identify if the printer will print, the menu can be printed in the following way.
   -Power the printer ON holding down the button, keep the setup button held down whilst the printer initializes.
   -When the printer has finished initializing ensure the printer is OFFLINE
   -Press and release the button to enter the MENU
   -Press the button under "MENU" on the LCD display
   -Press the button under "PRINT" on the LCD display
   
   The printer should print a menu settings page, if this prints OK the most likely causes for the problem are;

1. The computer system is not sending jobs to the printer (check the correct printer is selected on the computer system)
2. Connectivity problem (check cabling, IP Addresses etc)
3. The wrong printer driver is being used

The 2240/24 is designed to eject paper from the rear of the printer. I think the best option should you require 'front' ejection from the printer would be to place the printer 'back to front' on the desk.
This will allow the paper to feed in the back of the printer and eject from the front.

This is a common problem with the tally printer line in that model. You have to go into the configuration and set the Single sheet as the default paper style. When you make this selection from the selection menu it will go back to default after a period of time or anytime there is a jam or power off condition to include power saver. Check the user manual for the configuration access to the default settings and set single sheet feed as the default. That will solve the problem.

When you changed the ribbon, it is more than likely that the print head is out off position and the printer needs to find its home position again.
To get the printer to find its home position again power the printer OFF and back on again, the printer will then check the position of the print head and set the 'home possition'

You can set the left margin on the printer by simply moving the paper in the printer by unlocking the tractors and sliding them in the required direction.

The menu on the T2240 is locked to prevent accidental changes to menu settings, you can unlock the menu in the following way;

1. Start with the printer powered OFF
2. Hold down the SETUP button
3. Keep the SETUP button held down and power the printer ON
4. Keep the SETUP button held down until the printer has finished initializing, then release the SETUP button

The menu will be unlocked until the printer is reset or powered off.
You can turn the menu lock off by changing the MENLOCK option in the printers menu to OFF.

Does your user name and password have administrative rights on the computer? If not then you may need try with a user that does. I have run into some software that will throw a similar error if the folder already exists.
