Set your properties to a slower speed for the drive, also try to avoid NERO and programs which add some loss of CPU during the burn, or yet, let the burn happen and not be present on the pc which you are burning from, loss of CACHE and loss of RAM could be the issue. Make sure your PC is scanned for viruses, and spamware which could cause loss of RAM, go into your properties for the burn program and set the speed from BEST to the current speed listed on the drive. Look at the TOP of the drive(if you have access) look for the speed like 8x, 10x, 24x, and set your burn speed from FAST or BEST to the speed listed -1x or -2x. If your drive says 24x, burn at 20x, if your drive says 8x, burn at 6x, this helps the motor, laser, your pc, operate and burn at optimum properties without worry of a crash n burn and having coaster DVD's all over the house...

goto control panel, open device manager... you can find all the drivers that are installed in your computer including cd/dvd drivers....

start > control panel > device manager (for vista & win7)
start > control panel > system > hardware > device manager (for xp)

STEP 1:Please check for the power and IDEcables (both ends on the IDE) whether it is connected proper or not

STEP 2:Please check for the viruses in the computer.

STEP 3:Try with a different computer and check whether it is deducted or not.If not in the sense it is the issue with the Combo drive

In my spare time I fix PS-2's they always come in can't read disk's at all or can't read dvd's heres the deal and this is not for the faint a heart. I cannot even tell you the specifics of how to do it but can point in in the right direction. DVD and CD are written at diffrent angles therefore the laser eye gets out of adjustment. Now there is usually an adjustment gear that moves the angle of the lens twards the back of the carrage that carries the laser back and forth. What needs to happen is that the angle needs to be moved very slightly a click or two of the gear.then check it by getting the mechmism to hold a cd and dvd over the lens. On a ps-2 theres a cover that's magnetic that does that however ti is crucial that it all stay together and by the way that is an industrial laser it will blind you if you look at it. Now the thing is if you go the wrong way it will start not reading the cd's so that is how you tell if your doing it right. and as the man said before me the laser can be completely shot (however I doubt that to be the case since it still reads cd's) However all of this is quite the pain in the **** so it better be a pretty good or pretty illreplaseable dvd ( I did it with a couple of SCSI DVD-RW in that case it was worth it the choice is yours.

if u r sure about properly working of software & os ,u must check internal hardwares of it,like lens motor & its lever.even,sometimes by an easy cleaning of the lens,u can solve thisproblem
