If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose DeleteAfter deleting the keys, close the registry editorReboot your computerOpen My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. This drive is dead. Buy a new one $20 at newegg website.

that means the dvd is written in a different language and needs to be redone in a file format that is compatible with unit.you can find such programs on line to do that .just googel freeware and do some lookn im sure you will find more than one that will work for you .good luck

unplug data lead,turn on pc,then turn off,replug in data lead and the pc should see the drive.

You dont need any software to "Read" a cd/dvd. The drivers needed are automatically loaded when you install the drive.
If you need software to make "Burn" discs, there are a few good free programs.
I use CD BurnerXP.
Imageburn "IMGBURN"

just google free burning software for others

Since the driver for all optical units is the same Windows one it means that there's corruption in your system. 
Run a full malware scan and after it perform a Repair install.

try clening the lens..if it doesnot work, upgrade the firmware of the drive

Hi, the problem is tape cable inside the writer , replace the tape which in LG Writer. (better to take to service center)

I think that the problem here may be that the Jumper on the CD-ROM needs adjusting. The Jumper is a tiny piece of plastic at the rear of the hardware in question.

There will be a diagram on the top, or rear of the CD-ROM, with a choice of 3 settings. If it is a solitary Optical drive then place the Jumper in the 'C' position.

If it is a Slave, or secondary drive, then place the Jumper in the 'S' position & if it is a Primary or Master drive the it is to be placed in the 'M' position, respectively.

Does the light flash on the front when a disc is inserted or have you recently installed it as a Primary/Secondary optical drive? Plus, just as a matter of interest it will only read DVD's & read/write CD's.

Your problem could be down to a number of causes including a corrupt driver, where you will have to uninstall the driver by going into Device Manager, clicking the + sign in front of 'DVD/CD ROM drives,' right clicking on the Optical Drive in question, clicking properties/Driver Tab/Uninstall (Advanced).

This will remove a corrupt driver & when you restart your system the Hardware Manager will recognise the said Combo Drive & reinstall the driver.

If it is only unable to read DVD''s then you may require the necessary Codecs for your preferred Media Player, to support various file formats. I wish you the best of luck.
