Hi,
on the drive there will be printed or stamped:
MA, SL, CS (maybe in a different order.) Often there is a printed label, and often the re are tiny letters stamped either above or below the jumper pins.
You need to place a jumper in the vertical position over 1 set of pins corresponding to the map above.
ie if you want the drive to be a Master, jumper the vertical set marked (or indicated) as MA.
If you want it to be Slave, jumper the SL set.
If you want the drive to be set depending on where on the IDE ribbon cable is conected, connect the pins marked as CS.
BIOS will then allocate the drive as either a master or slave.

Note the manual is a dejaVu document which will ask to load a viewer plug-in into Internet Explorer.

Actually, inside that document, there is a drawing indicating that reading from left to right (ie from next to audio connector), the pins are: CS,SL, MA. So for example upper and lower pins at the extreme left are Cable Select, so you would jumper those 2 pins.

u need change in the mother board settings by seeing IDE 0 / SATA 0 , 1 or change in device in jumper settings by seeing in the device cover.

Sounds like a possible problem with the usb ports. Does the usb drive work on other pc's? If so, does your laptop recognize other usb devices (flash drives, mouse, keyboard etc.)?

If your laptop won't recognize other usb devices all the time, try this: go into device manager, go to the bottom, expand 'universal serial bus controllers'. Starting at the bottom of the list, right click on each item and left-click 'delete'. At some point you will likely lose your mouse/tochpad as it is probably an internal usb device. If this happens, press the power button on the laptop once to shut it down. Restart it, and windows will re-detect the deleted usb hubs and hopefully fix the problem. If this doesn't do it, go back and delete the other usb root hubs and host controllers. This is totally safe for your system and often fixes this issue. Windows will always re-detect hardware at boot time.

wmp is not a very good choice for burning disks, try nero alcohol 120%, goo media center, or roxio easy dvd creator, when you say it won't recognize the drive what exactly is the issue, what errors do you see, they are there for a reason, they provide information that can potentially solve the problem for you, also what operating system and the brand/model of the burner would be useful in trouble shooting the problem.

What software are you using to burn and what type of dvd are you trying to burn.(+), (-), or (RW). Do you have a copy of NERO? http://www.filehippo.com has NERO (I think) try a different then try a different disk. Some where it even said to try defragging the hard drive...It wouldn't hurt.
