LG 42PX4DR 42 in. Plasma TV - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Fault to the main power supply regulator section. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

Probably failed capacitors in the PSU. It is an easy fix for someone who can solder.

I suspect its a component (Capacitor) aging and eventually would need to be replaced. How do you have it connected? Is there a cable box or Direct TV receiver that you use to display TV Channels? If 10 years old does it even have an HDMI input? Should be very happy you got 10 years of life out of this Plasma. My thoughts is that it would take more to repair this than to purchase a new LCD or LCD/LED thinner TV. Plasma does have the best color but the LCD and LED TV's are much lighter/take less energy and are much brighter. Good luck.

You have some dried out capacitors on the power supply. Samsung has a major issue with this right now and I made a tutorial for that repair in my Tips & Tricks. Your capacitors will not be the same, but identifying them and replacing them will be. Best advise I can give you: Stop using the TV and unplug it until you get it fixed. When these caps go bad, they draw down the voltage they are filtering. I've seen some TVs that had secondary damage because of this. I hope this was of some assistance, best wishes.

Was it a display unit? If so its burn and you can't get it to go away Try to reset the unit by holding your Menu button for 8 to 15 seconds with the TV on. If this doesn't work then you'll most likely have to have the screen replaced. Check your serial number and see how old it is. First number is the year it was made. Next two are the month. so 911 is November of 2009. They find out what your warranty is. If its near the in warranty terms you stand a chance of LG taking the lead on fixing it for you for free or reduced cost.
Thanks,
Shawn

This is a how long is a piece of string question. You don't provide any details and expect an answer. All things can be fixed. On average problems like yours ( No picture) cost about $800 to fix if the sustain and power boards are involved. But in this case it's all guesswork

Thanks for using FIXYA

Normally this defect is due to misadjusting of PDP module voltages, these must be setting according to the sticker specification attached to on the back of PDP module

Y Sustainer problem. However, normally they have to change both Y Sus and Z Sus boards at the same time. If you lucky than it's just a fuse on the Y sustainer blown (the chance is very rare) otherwise the IPM (Intelligence Power Module) on the Y/X sustainer board is short. more then likely if you can get the IPM off of the board you will see that the components are shot, that is the popping noise you heard. shopjimmy.com has these boards some are cheap some are not...good luck

It's caused by a poor connection betwwen the screen and the rear circuit board. There is a conductive rubber filler which is used to bridge the connection and it can move off line. You can sometimes sort it by GENTLY flexing the casing.

It could be a fuse but most likely the power supply got damaged. You should get the power supply checked for any defective components on it that would cause cause the TV not to turn on. Most likely damage is the capicators on the power supply in the event of a power surge.

Hello Numty,

Dont waste your £££ on gold plated they make no difference the back of your telly will be alley as well as all the things your connecting it to.

If I was you I would case the following cable into the wall. I would definetely put at least one scart in the wall.... this could be used for DVD, Sky, etc... I would run 3 HDMI in the wall... this would future proof you. ie when the cost of Blue ray player, etc come down in price.
playstation, Blue ray, Sky+ HD box etc etc. The last thing you want to do is have to chase the wall again.

There is a tool I saw in Maplin and Screw fix It attaches to a regular drill and is set at an angle. Makes chasing walls a Lot easier.

Hope this has clarified things for you..

Hope you get it sorted out.

Cheers Little Dish Fitter

Sounds like the digital board or one of the connectors going to the display

This is normally only caused by two things, 1st- if your using the RGB inputs make sure the green is securely connected or possibly a bad set of cables. 2nd- If your not using that set up then I would say you have a defective main board. Have it looked at by a servicer if you cant find anything wrong with RGB Comp input cables.

Could be the XL/XR scan circuits, or a problem on the sustain board.

How old is your tv?
